A woman known as "the sea hag" who shot and killed her neighbor after he refused to give her a beer has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars.
Carolyn Dukeshire, 62, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Thursday in the July 2012 shooting of 64-year-old Martin Mazur, according to KeysNet.com. Dukeshire, who was facing a first-degree murder charge and made a deal with prosecutors, submitted a statement to the judge saying she was remorseful and would pay the rest of her life for losing her composure.
Police say Dukeshire had approached Mazur outside his Conch Key home and asked him for a can of Busch Light beer. "I have absolutely nothing for you," he replied.
That's when Dukeshire, who had no previous arrest history in Monroe County, shot Mazur five times. He later died at a nearby hospital.
Man Shoots Himself In Groin With Flare Gun
A 23-year-old man was taken to the hospital with multiple burn wounds after he accidentally shot himself in the genitals with a flare gun, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a home in Lehigh Acres Sunday in reference to a medical assistance call. Upon arrival, 23-year-old Jorge Perez was found with multiple burn wounds and lacerations to his genital area.
Perez told deputies he was playing with a flare gun that was unloaded. After dry firing the gun a few times, Perez says he then loaded the gun and put it down.
When he picked it up, Perez forgot the gun was loaded and fired it at the ground. Perez told deputies the flare round struck the floor and ricocheted into his genital area.
Perez was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
