The Institute of Energy Security (IES) says the Energy Minister's inability to solve the energy crisis the country is experiencing in recent times is enough for the president to sack him from office.
The Executive Director of IES, Nana Amoasi VII said Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh's leadership should be relieved so he can focus on other 'agenda' he seems much more interested in.
“Where we have gotten to, there is no circuit and so what is the use of the minister in that space? He must be relieved, probably to concentrate on any other agenda he is bidding for. He must be relieved of his post.
"It is becoming too much. Is it not insulting with the statement that he made? Total disrespect to consumers. Are we asking for too much?” Nana Amoasi VII said in an interview with Citi FM and monitored by Peacefmonline.com.
He further expressed disappointment with the minister's posture in dealing with the crisis that has left many Ghanaian businesses collapsing.
“For God’s sake, I am a prepaid consumer. I have paid for that power that you need to supply me. In fact, you chose to put a meter in my house at a fee, which is also a contract in a form, and he chose to take my money in advance.
“If I am not going to get the power, then just out of respect, at least tell me when I can have the power. But don’t look into my face and say, I should go and produce my own timetable,” he noted

@Short Memory, our memory may be short but sharp enough to know that uzless comparisons like you are trying to do don't move this country forward but only serves to pour cold water on what is a very serious power crises we are facing. Businesses are collapsing whilst you sit there to do your tuspid and baseless comparisons. That is why we voted NDC out then even though, in fairness, they solved the problem before leaving office. The most annoying thing is , with the benefit of hindsight and all the lessons to be learnt from the past this corrupt NPP government still got us back into this mess which by all accounts is more serious than what we experienced under NDC then. At least they gave us a time table to manage our predicament and which we are demanding now but what do we get: insults and taunts!
Ghana lived in dumsor from latter part of 2011 to early part of 2017. What happened to those ministers in charge for the period. We have not lived in dumsor for more than six moths from early 20017 to date and you demand the sack of the energy minister for non performance relative to 2011 to 2016 period? Short memory and mischievous gullible persons indeed!!!
@Albert. you really believed in those awards? Gullible! Gullible! Gullible Alberto!
Massa, NPP Government is not serious and they take the Ghanaian for granted as if they themselves have given up hope of "breaking the 8" why are they such liars and then they have the audacity to minimize the dumsor issue as well by comparing it to 2012. Look in 2012, compared to 2024, thanks to Bawumia, everything has moved digital, thus it is an existential crisis when electricity which powers the internet is off. In other words the impact of dumsor now is more than ever very critical due to the digitization agenda by Bawumia. As if that is not enough, Bawumia now wants Ghanaian buses to be charged by electricity when electricity is not even stable, these guys are not serious!! In Ghana the government comes and invest in all sort of things to steal money away, but they don't focus on "national strategic interest". The government that comes and focuses on energy in all of its forms as the number one strategic goal, nothing else but just focus on energy, and see how the country will prosper and achieve huge GDP, and slow down inflation due to the fact that factories will spring up to produce and then locals will consume locally manufactured goods, then surplus will be exported. The only goal should be energy- 1) Thermal energy, 2) Solar energy 3) Wind energy 4)Nuclear energy do these and allow Ghanaians to build the industries In the USA, the government has deemed energy - electric, natural gas, petrol, solar, etc as national strategic interest and all of the defense exist to protect that interest. They go to middle east because of oil and gas, they price control electricity, why, because it has implications on the national economy and elections.
Ghanaians indeed have got short memories as former president Mahama said. This energy minister has been awarded for being the best minister for five times in seven years. As a medical surgeon Napo has surprised the president for doing extremely well as an administrator for the education and the energy ministries until recent months.
He has no time to resolve the DUMSO problem. He is paying people to make noise about him being made a running mate. Can you imagine!
GOOD CALL
That this Energy Minister is still in office is beyond shocking. His continued presence in office is like a bitter pill a patient is forced to swallow which doesn't even cure the patient. Why the fak is he still in office?
