Senior Researcher, Professor Smart Sarpong has jabbed the Movement for Change, a political movement founded and led by former leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
Alan Kyerematen is contesting this year's December elections as an independent candidate and, to him, his Movement for Change which has a butterfly known in local parlance as "afrafranto" as its symbol is a movement to empower the youth and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo" in relation to the selection of a Running Mate for the ruling party, Professor Smart Sarpong delivered an analysis of the political landscape in Ghana.
He noted that nothing will compel the people of Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to vote for any other party apart from the "elephant" party.
To him, the Ashanti Region has proven to be in love with the NPP irrespective of how one looks at the party's performance.
In his view, the Region won't vote for the Movement for Change either despite Alan Kyerematen being the crusader.
“I don’t know what will worry the Volta Region to the extent that the Volta Region will vote for a different party. The same way, politically, nobody should be deceived into thinking that the Asante (Ashanti Region) will vote for a different party, not even the ‘afrafranto’ party; there is no way they will happen. When you stay in Kumasi, you will know how much they love their elephant”, he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh.
On the NPP Running Mate slot, the Senior Research Fellow of the Kumasi Technical University advised the rank and file of the party to "manage their expectations" to avoid conflicts if their favorite candidate isn't elected.

It’s obvious that NPP will win this year election.
If (it is just comments or analysis) is true, then why did Nigerians vote for Peter Obi. In fact it is said that he won the election, if not for the corrupt democracy. If you are really an intellectual, your analysis should focus on the factors Ghanaians and/or an Ashantes should consider when they cast their vote in the 2024 elections.
Well it's up to Ashanti people and Ghanaians in general to continue under utilising their brains and engaging in tribal and trivial politics. Ghana is said to be among the 10 countries in the world with lowest IQ, and some of these are a testament to it. You just want to vote for NPP because it's your party even when you have a strong reason to do otherwise? I and many others will be sick upstairs to vote for the NPP this time as I have always done when I have a chance to vote for a more credible third alternative to help control Ghana's polarised nature and extreme partisan politics that have over the years derailed our progress.
