The executive chairman of the Africa Prosperity Network (APN) and senior partner at Africa Legal Associates (ALA), Gabby Otchere-Darko, said Ghanaians will miss President Akufo-Addo when he leaves power come January 2025.
He said Ghanaians need to recognise the work that has been done by the current government though he recognises the current challenges.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (31 January) Otchere-Darko said, “Maybe when he [Akufo-Addo] leaves and he’s gone, then we will miss him.”
“We will notice it, but not now. After he’s long gone, they’ll say it.” According to him, the hard work of President Akufo-Addo is evident in how he invests in the future of this country.
“The way he thinks about the country because of the things that he does to make sure that every child has an opportunity in the future, later on, we will see it.”
Otchere-Darko said the NPP government has a lot to celebrate over the last eight years.
“There’s been challenges; there’s no two ways about it, but in recognising the challenges, also recognise the work that has been done.”
“I think they [the NPP] have a lot to celebrate if they can articulate their deeds better,” he added.

Of course Ghanaians cannot wait to say good riddance alas! They will remember but not miss him for various reasons. He will be remembered for rolling out free senior high school and insisting on it's continuation amidst opposition, cynicism etc, kudos to him on that. He will also be remembered for changing our historical narrative to make his family relevant in it and naming, renaming monuments for this purpose, removing holidays, introducing new ones and swapping others for this same purpose. He will also be remembered for imposing Bawumia on his party and attempting to do so on Ghana by every strength that he has which will fail woefully though because Ghanaians altogether are much stronger. He will be remembered for leading a government that has a special interest in collapsing Ghanaian owned businesses, big or small but promoting foreigners especially the Chinese. He will be remembered for having an idea about the good stuff but do otherwise, for example, the president knows how terrible galamsay is, but he prefers the lip service way, while allowing the systems to operate rather than truly acting to stop the menace. He will be remembered for making more Ghanaians poorer but making others to undeservingly richer. He will be remembered for leading a government that has fostered a new order, "get richer by all means possible or impossible, good way, evil way, physical way, spiritual way, nothing matters, just get the money and you will be worshipped, doesn't matter who is killed or affected, doesn't matter you are a man or woman, a child or octogenarian". He will be remembered for watching on while our society deteriorates at a very faster rate, cultural values dissipating, he himself said the abominable is "bound to happen", today social media space has been totally corrupted, people exposing their bodies indiscriminately, all people talk about is s£x, everyone sells herbal drugs that heal everything including sexuaI enhancements, etc and no body cares about toxicity levels or standardisation. He will be remembered for nurturing a country that has turned things upside down overnight, today people are taught bribery from JHS, they pay monies to pass their exams and pay their way through until secure jobs after tertiary, anyone who doesn't follow this trend or give out their bodies will remain unemployed forever. So bribery and corruption is the order of the day from the market woman to the presidency, it is rather the "abnormal" people who don't participate in this order. Every country has developed by putting in place strategic plans, in our case, it's all about division, we are so divided as a nation, China sponsored their students heavily to go to the west, study and bring back technologies. In our case, people at or connected to the scholarship secretariat are selling the scholarships at £10k and some already corrupted Ghanaians do everything to pay these monies. Where are we headed as a country? These legacies will follow Nana Addo and Bawumia forever, but I am optimistic that one day, the serious minded leader will come and collapse all these unhealthy legacies
@ KTR, yooo, I can guarantee you that we the "false" Ghanaians far outnumber you and your likes who think you're more Ghanaians but are doing everything within your means to waste Ghana. We will not reward the attitude of lying to get power, only to do worse than you accused your opponents and then re-strategize to win power. Be honest for once, what has been the achievement of Nana/Bawumia? Yes FSHS is great but what else? Infrastructure? How much of it have they done? Does it commensurate the revenues, loans and free grants they have received in any way? Don't be deceived, with the income they have had in 7 years, I have no doubt that we could seen more than 8 times what they have done if they were committed to Ghana and utilised the resources more prudently. Instead, we have seen unprecedented levels of corruption, everyone involved, men, women, young people, old people, children, etc and they are doing so with so much impudence as if it's their last meal on earth. What did they not say about Mahama's government, which was mostly true though, but how could the same people be entrusted with our power and do repeat those evils in over 10 folds? A ***barred word*** is not only the one who has been caught, the one who has stolen but has not been caught red handed and pretending to be a saint is still a ***barred word***. You guys accused a who president of taking not more than a USD 50k car as a bribe, have you seen what this government has done, from Agyapa, PDS, Bank of Ghana, Sputnik , extortion of monies at the airport in the name of COVID, galamsay, etc etc and it's in the excess of billions of USD. Where did Bawumia get hundreds of millions to bribe delegates? And you think because we don't think we will reward such people for these atrocious things or to grant the unscrupulous wishes of their elitist affiliates?
INSULT DOES NOTMAKE YOU BUT RATHER DESTROYS YOU AND SHORTEN YOUR LIFESPAN ON THIS EARTH. EVERYBODY AND HIS /HER OPINION. CRITICIZE BUT MAKE YOUR POINT DEVOID OF INSULTS
There goes another ***barred word***,@KTR! And what's the difference between akuffo addo and bawumia? Baumia whp could not answer even a single question from the 117 questions he posed to amissah Arthur? We understand you are a propagandist and ***barred word*** of bawuia but Charlie, this will not wash.Give Ghanaians a break
@Jay,save your breadth. This government when caught stealinng tend to blame the people who catch them stealinng . They even blame Ghanaians and the president was caught on tape giving weight to such idiocyy by saying all those criticising him will be put to shame one-by-one(transliteratively). Well in a way he is right cos Ghanaians made the mistake of allowing such a character into power. Someone who clearly demonstrated in word and deed that he only thinks about himself and his family and cronnies. All die-be-die is his mantra and Ghanaians, some of whom are as dumb as poo, ignored these flaws in him and voted for him. So he would blame us.
True Ghanaians are looking forward to Bawumia. But we will not miss Akuffu Addo.
It is possible all the money you will give us yet we will not vote for you. If other government continue with the same attitude which is leading us to danger then we will remember the originator . No more holding on unto integrity , honesty is loss , everybody is aim to getting money at all cost even to point of killing our own family member ,greed , non patriotic ,sake of money we are releasing our freedom to foreigners ,we collapse our brothers business and let foreigners own flourish, Government appointees seek their own interest , They use their positions for themselves creating companies and they go about saying private sector is the engine of growth while they collapse the government once ,third party conflict of interest, they reject good offers that will benefit a lot of youth because they will not get anything direct .This is the country Nana has build .
@re:Kn, since did you guys realise that family and friends in government is a trivial matter and doesn't affect competency? Those who campaigned vigorously and won elections because of some of those lies they told about previous government only came and did worse by involving all their relations in governance, either directly or indirectly, which is the worst in our history. It's even alleged that some of these family members were ex partners,, girlfriends etc and some covertly usurp powers equivalent to a prime minister, yet people like you who have your conscience and brains tainted by politics can shameIessly say this is a trivial matter. Which country has been able to develop substantially with that strategy? Would you say the same if NDC comes to power and do it at the scale that Akufo Addo has taken it to? Do you know anything about conflict of interest? Do you know the extent of damage a gang of a family can do to a nation? It is rather the COVID and Ukraine war that are the trivial matters, no serious government all over the world have ever cited it as an excuse for their failure, if you know of many, provide the evidence here. The western countries were directly hit massively by those two events, yet they have successfully navigated through the challenges without any significant destruction to their economies or the need to steal the savings of their citizens in the name of debt restructuring. And none of their businesses were lost or people losing their monies to unprecedented weakening or the currency. The family and friends unbridled involvement in government, coupled with unique incompetence and novel levels of corruption and visionlessness are responsible for the woes of our country.
Government by family and friends has become a cliché in Ghanaian opposition politics, a trivial polemic that has nothing to do with competence except for propaganda purpose. The pandemic has derailed even the big world economies and are yet to recover. The Ghanaian economy fared well in the first term of the Akufo-Addo administeration before COVID hit.
We are grateful for the rapid increase in corruption, the collapse of the economy, family, friends government and the best of all, taunting us. The problem is that, the alternative is Mahama and NDC. What a mess we find ourselves in?
