Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the behaviour exhibited by his appointees.
Mr. Mahama said that President Akufo-Addo seems to have disregarded his previous advice to his appointees about seeking opportunities in the private sector for personal enrichment.
Addressing the graduating class of 2023 at the Academic City University College, Mr. Mahama expressed concern about what he said was a “significant deviation” of President Akufo-Addo's appointees from the admonishment given by the president six years ago.
During his speech, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer also cautioned graduates aspiring to enter politics for richness.
He urged them not to use their leadership positions to pursue selfish ambitions but to prioritize serving the nation and its people.
Mr. Mahama recalled the President's words from over six years ago when he emphasized that individuals seeking office should not do so for personal gain, but instead venture into the private sector if enrichment is their goal.
He emphasized that the wisdom of these words seems to be forgotten in light of the current situation.
In his advice to the graduands, Mr. Mahama stressed the importance of accountability and cautioned against using leadership positions for personal or partisan interests.
Instead, he encouraged the graduates to unite and work toward the development of the country.
Highlighting the challenges of leadership, Mr. Mahama emphasized the need for competent-based staff engagement wherever they find themselves in leadership roles.
He concluded by reminding the audience that accountability is inevitable, especially with the increased awareness and demands of Ghanaian citizens to be active participants in the country's governance rather than mere spectators.
The former President encouraged the graduates to adopt a selfless model of leadership that promotes the advancement of the nation and its people.

No objective mind will claim that Mahama's tenure was devoid of blatant corruption. He was disgraced at the 2016 polls for those reasons. It's a shame that Nana's regime has brought Ghanians to their lowest due to his government repeating and multiplying in several folds all the wrong things recorded in previous governments. This is what has staged and strengthened the decision to comeback by JM. Till when should this cycle continue? Stop defending use1essness and let's work together to lay the grounds for honest, thoughtful, selfless, intelligent and truly incorruptible person with a proven integrity and not a media cooked person to come and save this country in the near future. In the meantime, we are torn between 2 devils, but there's a slightly better one.
Ablakwa has never worked before becoming a Minister and a huge sum of money got missing in his car a t a washing bay. Was an appointee of Nana Addo? This same person chartered a flight for his friends to attend his marriage ceremony. Was he a n appointee of Nana Addo at that time? This same person again and Fiifi Kwerety were going for classes outside the countery on weekends. Were they appointees of Nana Addo. He JM himself was asked to buy an aircraft for the military and you Kwame was a witness the corruption that emerged from the transaction prompting Prez Atta Mills calling for a probe and what we heard was his death. I can go on and on. Please, let's tell JDM not to be more holier than everybody in this country. Is he because he wants to come back that's these pronouncements?
@ Kwame, don't mind some of us ghanaians, we deserve what we are going through in the hands of wicked politicians. Your prez is so rotten in corruption and instead of us protesting this, some simpletons will still hail him. Power and opportunity has exposed Akufo Addo now, his identity has even changed. Before he won power, he was known to be incorruptible Akufo Addo, today, he's best known to be the mother serpent of corruption, protecting his boys and girls who are the hands of loots. Who would have entertained Mahama near power again, he himself didn't have confidence in himself again until he saw the magnitude of this government's corruption surpassing his in multiples.
I keep getting amazed at some of us Ghanaians, that's why your politicians take things for granted. When you start being objective and engaging politicians effectively, they'll resume their senses. Must you defend the reck less acts of thought1ess and selfish politicians. Did Akufo state or not that his appointees should consider the private sector rather if gaining riches were their focus? Are we not witnessing the direct opposite of every promise he made with regards to protecting the public purse? Has he cared to take any positive steps towards controlling the situation? Instead he has attempted to clear every scandal that comes to the public domain, how greedy and hypocritical could a man be? Or because the reminder is coming from Mahama makes it untrue? When Mahama was in power, was he spared of any scandal his government was involved in? Did Akufo Addo and all of us Ghanaians spare him? Why are you trying to cover up for Akufo Addo even when his poor performance and corruption led government is strangling you? The person who asked where Mahama got money to do his campaign, tell us first where Bawumiah has got the money to do the kind of campaign that he's doing.
Fulish man ask yourself where you got the money to pay for your election campaign. Is only in Ghana that a person like you will think of coming back to power. You are not alternative so don't waste your time and money. Kennedy Agyapong is more trusted and capable than you. Go get some pito to drink and leave Ghana politics alone.
This is why some pollsters were advising the Ndc to replace Mahama because the perception of he being corrupt has stuck with him. Between Mahama and Bawumia or Alan the two front runners, who will the majority of the people of Ghana trust to look after the finances of our their nation.
