President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday evening met with the NPP MPs demanding that he sacks Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.
The MPs numbering over 80, at a Press conference bemoaned the challenges in the economy as well as hardships being experienced by their constituents.
The MPs threatened not to be present for the 2023 budget reading if their demands are not met.
“If our request is not responded to positively, we will not be present for the budget hearing, neither will we participate in the debate,” Mr Appiah-Kubi, spokesperson for the Majority caucus and MP for Asante-Akim North Constituency indicated.
This led to a crunch meeting with the MPs.
But speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Eugene Boakye Antwi, Subin MP who said he wasn't able to attend the meeting said no matter what was discussed "we're not backing down".
"We are not backing down….why should we back down?" he questioned.
According to him, if the President insists on keeping his cousin, the Finance Minister, "he (President) should add Parliament to the Executive and govern the nation with Ken Ofori-Atta".
"These are not calls from the NDC; they are calls from your own people, NPP MPs calling on you to reshuffle. If not he (President) should add Parliament to the Executive and govern the nation with Ken Ofori-Atta. The constituents are really peeved. If we don’t speak now this party is gone. We are not going to toy with the future of this country. This party does not belong to any individual," he added.

Hope these gallant MP's mean their words. As representatives of your constituents you are also the voice of the people. My advice to the 80 NPP MP's is that they should stand firm, if they recoil their credibility is gone for good. If you have a leader who thinks he alone is always right, everybody else is wrong these are the results to expect. A leader should know that it's because of some others people like him or her, if those people decide to withdraw, the leader's support will also fall. MP's were elected just as the president, it is and was not because of him the MP's won their seats. Akuffo Addo has one vote in his constituency, Abuakwa south. They should tell him that they all voted for him to be president, he didn't vote for all of them to be MP's. The ordinary NPP supporter is fed up with him not to talk of those who didn't support him in the first place. Ghanaians liked him and had so much confidence and trust in him, unfortunately he has become his own enemy number 1. He may go down as the worse president in Ghana's history if he were to hand over power to Mahama in 2025. That would mean Ghanaians are saying that Mahama will all his negatives is still far better than Akuffo Addo. It's like changing the plug in your car for a new one only to realize the old plug was firing much better. Akuffo Addo should sit back and ask himself one question; ' how will i grade myself if i hand over power to John Mahama on 7 January, 2025 '. If your answer is ' no problem ' like you responded to the people of kwabre then i can't think far. Akuffo Addo paaaa, what do you take Ghanaians for. You (Akuffo Addo) was able to rally Ghanaians against the dreaded and fearsome Rawlings, why do you think others can't do same against an ordinary person like you? Think, think and think again. Nobody hates you, you had 53.7 % of adult Ghanaians solidly behind you in 2016, in 2020 it dropped to 51.3 % or so. Bet me if elections were held today with you on the ballot you will be competing with Akua donkor, Ayariga, odike and the coconut group for a percentage. Your own party people are more peeved than even the NDC. NPP People are peeved. This was not what they envisaged when they were chanting your name all over the place. You can't like someone more than yourself, no.how can you leave your work, go and queue for hours to vote to change some people's life from grade D to A whiles your life moves from D to F. Nobody will allow that. NO. If that is the case then voting in Ghana is complete waste of time. At least let the voter also move from grade D to C, if you can't do that, you have no business leading people, period.
