President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cautioned that he is not moved by threats of electoral consequences by some supporters of the New Patriotic Party, NPP.
He is of the view that not everyone will vote for a particular candidate in an election and that voters can also not be forced to make choices in a democratic dispensation hence there was no need to threaten a government with votes.
Akufo-Addo was responding to concerns raised by people in Manso and Kwabre, who according to an OTEC FM journalist had threatened to vote out the NPP in 2024 if their roads are not fixed.
The journalist was hosting the President in an exclusive interview as part of his official visit to the Ashanti Region where he inspected and launched a number of projects.
“The people of Kwabre and Manso, we know they voted massively for Nana, they have asked me to inform the president that if their roads are not fixed, they will be pained and in 2024, they will vote against the NPP,” the journalist said after the Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Attah had responded to a question.
The president quickly weighed in with a response: “No problem, no problem.” He continued: “I am saying people make those kinds of threats, me, they don’t frighten me. Somebody votes for you, somebody supports you, it is because they want you to do things for them, so I understand that.
“There is no need for people to say if I do not do it, this or that. That is your own problem. Of course, I will fulfil my promises.
“But if it so happens that you decide to vote for the NDC, that is your problem, that is not mine. Nobody will hold your hand to thumbprint for any candidate, the most important thing is that I understand the responsibility and we will deal with it,” he stressed.

President you are right We your NPP ***barred word*** will like more of those comments We have stole a lot so go ahead and insulting Ghanaians
@ Teng, give me 5. Am NPP but feels ashamed now to identify with the party. Our man has a very big problem. He's slowly killing the NPP, you don't bite the hand that feeds you but this is exactly what our man is doing. Animals like fowls, dogs goats, sheep and cows all know the one that feeds them.A dog will never attack the one feeding it, when it sees you it will come and lie besides you. Unfortunately the lead 'dog ' in NPP is rather biting the people that feeds it . What can we than to endure all the way to 2024 ending. The elders have a saying. There is something you hate that is good for you, there is another thing you like too much that is bad for you. Under Akuffo Addo the NPP is bad for the ordinary party supporter. All the sacrifices kufour and his appointees made to make the NPP the obvious choice are being dismantled. Sad though.
This is serious. Someone close to the man should advice him to be careful with his utterances in public. A lot of Ghanaians are peeved and what is doing amounts to adding insult to injury. He is dashing the hopes of Akyems who wants to build their political future unless he wants to be the last person from that ethnic group to be president. Leadership is about giving hope to your people whatever the difficulties. To say the people can go ahead and vote for the NDC and that that's their problem not yours is disheartening. This is the region that has kept faith with the NPP from day one, if you have nothing good to offer them at least don't give cheeky responses to their questions. Akuffo Addo is making the NPP very unattractive. He should know that it's the Ghanaian people who made him president. If qualification to the presidency were by examinations, he won't even come near the exams centre much more attempting to sit for the exam. Am for NPP but this is the worse time ever to identify with the party. A leader who does not listen to wise counsel is not deserving of a leader. He has failed us big. Maybe we overrated him. Mahama was not good but between the two Mahama was a saint. He will not speak like this to the people of the Volta region. At least Mahama knows those who made him what he is. Akuffo Addo should have this in mind, if he were to hand over power to John Mahama in 2025, it means Ghanaians are saying that Mahama with all his negatives is still far better than Akuffo Addo. If that happens akuffo Addo will go down as the most disgraced president in Ghana's history if only he knows SHAME. He is a complete disaster. He didn't learn any lessons from kufour as a cabinet minister, most unfortunate. We pray for the remaining 2 years to come fast for him to go . The first time Ghanaians are eager to see a president leave the scene.
The most unfortunate statement coming from a president who begged for votes by saying we should try him. Today he's gotten all he wanted and can now speak before thinking. If H. E. Former president kufour was such a loose talker people wouldn't have found the NPP attractive for akuffo Addo to ride on to power. He should remember it was kufour's legacies that brought he Akuffo Addo to power. The fact that he Akuffo Addo got 49% of the votes in the first round of the 2008 elections meant the NPP was still the popular choice of Ghanaians after 8 years in power. Fact is anyone thinking of taking over from akuffo Addo for the 2024 elections have a Herculean task at hand. The man has succeeded in destroying the NPP. The NPP will have to go for overhauling after his exit, it will take decades for the people to trust the NPP again. For a president to visit his party's stronghold to talk this way is enough indication that the man ***barred word*** about a future NPP after his exit. Maybe he doesn't want any of his tribesmen to ever be a president after him. He's an embarrassment to the NPP fraternity. Today he won't see the impact of what he said at the FM station in Kumasi . This is the worse time ever to belong to the NPP tradition. Indeed Akuffo Addo was right when he said Ghanaians should try him. Today the result is not a stomach ailment which cannot be seen, it's an eye disease, everyone can see it.
Mr President, I hope you are not becoming insensitive about the well being of those that made the request and most importantly the fortunes of the NPP party going forward. You may have finished your term and so can go and enjoy your rest with whatever you managed to accumulate. But try and be sensitive to the needs of the people and the future fortunes of your NPP whose platform helped made you president in the first place. Coloured people why do we always come across as selfish and insensitive to others. We only focus on what we get and don't give a damn what the others feel. This attitude is what has kept us back for centuries. We have to learn to care for our own . No race will do it for us. Even if we don't have it , our words should inspire hope and not insensitivity.
