“These are my very good friends and if there’s something happening to them and I’ve been told they’re innocent, it is not against the efforts of galamsey to represent them,” says Freddie Blay.
The immediate past National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasized that his law firm, Blay & Associates, is not offering any legal representation for En Huang, the Chinese national, who is popularly known as Aisha Huang, in the illegal mining case before the Accra Criminal High Court 5.
According to him, Blay & Associates are only representing Shi Yang alias Philip, Li Wei Guo and Shi Mei Zhi, all Chinese nationals, and a fourth accused person, Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen, a Vietnamese national.
"I am not representing Aisha Haung and definitely not Blay and Associates; we don’t represent Aisha Haung," he told Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', adding he accepted to represent the FOUR after "a good friend" asked for his assistance.
Explaining further he said his four clients, "were arrested in their homes in Kumasi; one is even married to a Ghanaian and they operate a supermarket and so he pleaded with me to represent them. Per his (friend) explanation, there might have been a mistake or an issue of stereotyping and so I instructed my office to make a representation to defend them".
Freddie Blay disappointment
Freddie Blay's critics including members from his party have said he should have stayed away from the case.
In response he said: "I’m disappointed in those saying I can’t represent the four . . . this is the work I do; I practice law and we don’t discriminate or judge them. I find nothing wrong (to represent them) . . . it is part of our judicial system . . . Those asking me to recuse myself: these are my very good friends and if there’s something happening to them and I’ve been told they’re innocent, it is not against the efforts of galamsey to represent them".
"I support government’s efforts against galamsey but not all people put before court are involved in galamsey," he added.

I THINK THIS IS NOT AN EASY CALL BUT FOR SOUND JUDGEMENT MR BLAY SHOULD HAVE RATHER REFERRED THEM TO ANOTHER LAW FIRM TO HANDLE THE MATTER . MR BLAY SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SENSITIVE TO THE MOOD OF THE NATION AND THE IMPACT SUCH MOVES HAVE ON HIS OWN PARTY THAT IS IN GOVERNMENT. IT IS NOT AS IF MR BLAY AND HIS FIRM WILL GO HUNGRY IF THEY DO NOT TAKE UP THIS CASE. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IS KEY IN ALL THINGS. @BABE IMAGINE THE DOCTOR IS SUPPOSED TO TREAT A KNOWN ARMED ROBBER WHO IS ALLEDGED TO HAVE HARMED THE DOCTOR'S IN LAWS , HOW WELL DO YOU THINK IT WILL GO DOWN WITH THE IN LAWS. SOMETHINGS REQUIRE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE . YES THE PEOPLE MAY NOT BE GALAMSEYERS BUT THE ATMOSPHERE SURRONDING THE RING LEADER DOES NOT HELP. SO YOU STAY AWAY BY REFERING THEM TO SOMEWHERE ELSE DESPITE YOUR PROFESSIONAL ETHICS.
Old age is never the same as being wise
This is a poor judgement on the part of Freddie Blay. He is just like Osafo Marfo. You are politically connected person and people who are speaking against you are 100% correct. Are you the only person in Ghana who can help them? What is even striking is that you say they are your friends. So, friends versus Galamsey which is an existential threaten to Ghanaian people and you chose friends. It is shocking to say they are not Galamseyers but AG has charged them with involvement in illegal mining activities. How can you stand on political platform to campaign for NPP again? Your judgement is poor, and you can never be trusted again.
Hahahaaaa. It serves the powers that be right. Having allowed this 'foreigner' to come and hijack the national chairmanship of the NPP with the help of some inward looking, selfish and arrogant group of people , the man has grabbed more than enough, still not satisfied he is now working against the so called vision of the powers that be by considering his personal interest against the interests of the Ghanaian people to have a clean environment devoid of galamsey. At his age i expected him to have known that ' it is not everything that is right to do, that is wise to do '. Unfortunately 'stomach direction ' had no room for wisdom. However long a log stays in water, it cannot never turn into a crocodile. I wish the NPP foreigner could do more of such things against the so called vision of the power that be. It serves him right. Next time you will value your own. When you dig a hole for someone to fall in make it wide, in case you slip and also fall inside you will also find enough space to stand.
My question is should a medical doctor not look after an alleged armed robbery if his is brought to the hospital? Professional ethics don’t allow that. Law and morality do not mixed.
I am highly disappointed in you for defending people who are working against the president vision, legally right but morally wrong get this into your head.
