Charles Owusu, former Head of Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission, has supported calls by the Alliance For Footsoldiers Advocacy (AFFA) for a reshuffle in President Akufo-Addo's ministerial team.
AFFA, a grassroot wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the President should reshuffle his appointees to fortify the economy.
The group argues that some of the appointees are dormant in the discharge of their duties and strongly believes the reshuffle will wake them up to execute their duties effectively because lazy ones are crippling the economy.
But President Nana Akufo-Addo, in a radio interview on North Star radio in Tamale as part of his tour of the Northern Region, says the reshuffle will destabilize his government.
“The calls come for all kinds of reasons; NDC wanting to destabilize the government is one. There are people who are also looking for jobs,” the President said.
Charles Owusu disagrees with the President's stance as, according to him, the reshuffle will rather help put the Ministers to work.
He also asserts changing the appointees will largely contribute to the growth of the economy contrary to the President's beliefs that it will slow down his government.
"I am for the reshuffle . . . People are calling for reshuffle because of their sufferings. I think he also reducing the size of the government is also another way of making sure we get efficiency at that side . . . So, it is not necessarily that he should replacing his appointees but maybe, when he reduces the size of government, it can also whip up the confidence of Ghanaians," he said on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo".

Well said , it's like Akuffo Addo is taking NPP supporters for granted. Joining a political party is voluntary and not compulsory. Voting in Ghana is a civil duty but it's not an offence under the laws of Ghana if one decides not to vote. Currently the economy is in shambles, there is the need to realign some of the ministers to cut costs. We used to have Ministry of Roads and transport, now they have been separated, fisheries used to be part of the ministry of food and agriculture, there is no need for a ministry of sanitation and water resources which used to be ministry of works and housing. Every ministry should not have more than one deputy under the current circumstances, the railway ministry can fall under the ministry of roads and transport. Reshuffle does not necessarily means sacking your ministers, you can move them around, why will you have same ministers for finance, defence, interior, foreign affairs, roads, agriculture, health, transport, trade, national security for 6 years running. What new ideas can they bring to these ministries again. Is Akuffo Addo saying president kufour made a mistake when he moved him (Akuffo Addo) from the Justice ministry to the foreign affairs ministry? A good leader must have a listening ear. To say those people calling for a reshuffle are jobless NPP members is laughable. These are the people who gave you one of the highest paying job as a president and you think you deserve it but they don't deserve to be ministers? It's like Akuffo Addo doesn't care about a future NPP after his exit. If president kufour was thinking same way you ( Akuffo Addo) will not have come to meet a solid and formidable NPP to ride on to power. How will you ( Akuffo Addo) see yourself if you were to hand over to John Mahama in 2025? It will mean Ghanaians are saying that with all his alleged incompetence, John Mahama is still far better than you. If it so happens, Akuffo Addo will go down in history as the most disgaced president in Ghana's history. He's joking with Ghanaians. People are not happy with him at all considering the high hopes and goodwill they had for him prior to you becoming the president. Even under the current difficulties the people would have still supported you if you were on top of issues, unfortunately it's like you don't even know what's happening in your immediate circles, everything, basaaaa, nyamaaa, tawiiii. NPP members are not laughing, NDC members are not laughing, if your mother is in the kitchen of a funeral home and you as her child still go to sleep on a hungry stomach then it would have been better if that child was an orphan, at least the child will have an excuse to say am sleeping hungry because my mother is no more. Akuffo Addo has only succeeded in making John Mahama look like a saint, today NDC members mock their NPP counterparts by saying ' we told you about this man, we told you the man is only interested in becoming president, that's all, anything happening is his backcase, they seemed to have been vindicated.Rather unfortunate.
