The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has acknowledged the difficulties Ghanaians are going through due to COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.
“The state of affairs is quite a painful one for me to report to you, it is hard to see our people lament about the prices of basic commodities, these are difficult times for government and indeed, for the Finance Minister . . . we know things are hard but we have a plan to guide us,” he averred.
According to him, “Towards 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine, a situation that worsened the already weakened global supply chain exacerbated by high conditions. These have had a debilitating toll on the cost and standard of living of our people. Mr Speaker, food prices are rising, fuel and transport fares are up, the cost of borrowing for businesses and for households has increased, the cedi has depreciated and the economic outlook has dipped significantly.”
We Shall overcome
The Finance Minister is however confident that "we shall overcome" every difficulty facing the country.
"It's amazing how we can find humor in the most difficult situation that keeps our spirit alive . . . these are not what we desired but we believe in the overcoming spirit of the Ghanaian people . . " he stated.
Adding, "we believe together we will overcome challenges that lie ahead of us . . . with discipline dedication and hardwork, we will overcome the challenges . . . we have done it before and we will do it again".

Hahahaaaa, it's good the very person who messed up is same person saying it's quite painful for him to report on his own mess. Fact is NPP is a good party, unfortunately those in charge now are can be compared to day care pupils, same class but each pupil is seen doing his/her own thing. The Busia 1969-1972 was the last time this tradition tasted power until 2001 almost 30 years before kufour came to power again.Kufour in his wisdom knew very well that as at 2001 most of the people who saw the Busia regime are all elderly people now. Majority of the youth if not all did not see Busia in power. To make the NPP attractive to the youth kufour came out with tailor measured pro poor policies together with others, i.e. School feeding program, capitation grant, metro mass transport, free mass cocoa spraying exercise, national youth employment program, micro finance and small loans centre, hosting of CAN 2008 culminating in Tamale and Takoradi getting 2 brand new stadia, millennium challenge account ( George ***barred word*** highway in Accra), Free uniform for basic schools, had very good relations with world political giants George ***barred word***, Angela Merkel, Shinzo Abe, Jachque Chirac, Tony Blair, Queen Elizabeth II, his relationship with Africa's giant Nigeria was superb under Olusegun Obasinjo. he appointed quality ministers who's names were household names before he came to power. Under kufour the NPP as a party was moving along side government to the admiration of party supporters. Unfortunately all that has been dismantled by the current elephant. The 2001 elephant had big ears and listened a lot thus the successes it chalked, the 2017 elephant equally have big ears but doesn't listen, at best it hears but won't listen thus where we are now to the extent that the one in charge of finance feels shy to report on the country's economic situation. Unprecedented
***barred word*** man! you closed the banks to show us power and now our monies are locked up with the so called financial institutions in good standing and we are suffering for your actions. Now you blame russia and ukraine. This is the most incentive government in the history of Ghana. You lack the the ability to govern and show authentic leadership. You run the country like an investment bank in your own interest and yet you hypocritically appear surprised at the turn out of events? Is it not surprising that Data bank is the only investment house nof affected by your hasty decision to shut ths banks. You talk about banking sector clean up with huge sums, what happened to the rest who have not yet received their hard earned monies with existing financial houses are we not deserving of support tooo? Since you took office in 2016 we lost our financial stability and peace of mind, are you accursed? Please fix the mess and stop the crying wolf you are personally not affected by any of the happenings.
JUST HAND-OVER. Your mess am sorry is too much!!! Always, COVID 19 and Ukraine/ Russian war excuses.
