Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates in the persons of Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam George and the party's Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otukonor were hooted at during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ongoing National Delegates Conference.
The NPP delegates sang and clapped "away" when the NDC delegates, delivering a solidarity speech at the conference, made a joke about the Ghana card.
The NDC Deputy General Secretary mocked the ruling party saying he bought a ball of kenkey for GHC 5 using his Ghana card.
This was an implied riposte to a recent viral statement by the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who said if given a chance to choose between a 1000 interchanges and the Ghana card, he would choose the Ghana card any day any time.
Otukonor said "when we were coming, I decided to buy a ball of kenkey. This ball of kenkey sells for GHC 5, the leaves on the kenkey alone will be GHC 3, more expensive than the kenkey itself…and guess what, I bought the kenkey with my Ghana card."
But his statement did not go down well with the delegates who suddenly catcalled him, thus truncating the opposition party's solidarity message.

It is only unintelligent and uninformed person will not see the importance of Ghana Card in our present scheme of things. Such people are only in NDC, no wonder they were in office for 8 years but refused to do the card started by Pres. Kuffour before he left office in 2008. Oh NDC, lack of knowledge my people perish. How can you govern in this technological age without national data? And these guys want power to rule us. Never again, NDC
A very undignified behavior by the NDC but wasn’t too surprised because Sam George was part of the team. Solidarity message is not for taking swipes at your opponent. Some of their supporters were even interviewed on Joy fm and the sort of things they said were not complimentary. What if the NPP guys had reacted aggressively? If they think because of the economic situation they have already won 2024 then they should rethink their position.
