Former Communications Director for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, has admitted that his party was wrong to criticize the Mahama-led administration for seeking financial assistance from the International Monetary fund (IMF).
“That was our (NPP) mistake, we goofed,” he said.
According to him, any government’s decision to seek assistance from the fund is “justifiable” and must not be slammed for political reasons.
“Other well-developing countries are running to the IMF, so it’s not wrong for Ghana to do the same in these hard times and economic crisis,” he told NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie'.
However, the government of Ghana's negotiators and officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have commenced negotiations on how to rescue the economy immediately as debt sustainability has become difficult.

Well said, it takes a gentleman to admit that he got it wrong. Those who pretend as if they are more NPP than others are those defending the indefensible. Former president Kufuor can be said to be the most successful president of the fourth republic but he once apologized to Ghanaians during his presidency that certain things he thought of when he was in opposition are not what he saw when he took over the drivers seat. That was a mark of leadership. A good leader must have a listening ear, a good leader is one who admits he doesn't know it all. Ghanaians had a lot of hope in akuffo Addo from what we all heard about him. He's a no nensense person, he's very strict, he's a disciplinarian and all that . We voted massively for him, now you keep asking whether the akuffo Addo we heard of is same person in the driving seat. He looks confused, overwhelmed, absent minded and frustrated. Simple reshuffle which doesn't need parliamentary approval to do, this simple one too , our man can't do. Almost six years on you have same ministers for Finance, defence, interior, agriculture, foreign affairs, roads, national security , trade, transport , abaaa. Why won't they turn into thin gods and take unilateral decisions. A roads minister can get up and suspend road tolls for vehicles to use roads for free, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger long vehicles gross over into Ghana , load heavy equipments and drive back to their countries free without paying a pesewa as road toll. Meanwhile Ghanaian vehicles which gross into these counties pay road tolls in and out. So from which fund is government going to pay road contractors? I thought the slogan is kitoa biaa nso, little drop of taxes make a mighty nation. How will an IMF bound country stop the payment of a toll like road toll when nobody has complained about the payment, if there is one tax people pay without complaining , it's road tolls, once the roads are in good shape they will pay. It's like Akuffo Addo came to vindicate Mahama . He has supplied Mahama with more than enough ammunition to fire in 2024. Rather unfortunate. NPP paaaa, being rediculed everywhere you go.
