Bernard Allotey Jacobs has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his decision to seek financial support from the IMF.
A statement issued and signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said; "The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorized Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to commence formal engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), inviting the Fund to support an economic program put together by the Government of Ghana".
"The engagement with the IMF will seek to provide balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana's build back in the face of challenges induced by the COVID-19 pandemic and, recently, the Russia-Ukraine crises," the statement further read.
Following the announcement, President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government have come under a barrage of criticisms, particularly because the President promised Ghanaians he would never take Ghana back to the IMF.
But to social commentator, Allotey Jacobs, the President deserves respect for taking such a bold step.
"For President Akufo-Addo to say that let us go and negotiate with IMF in spite of all that he has said, let's give him respect for it."
He, however, called on the President to address the nation on the IMF bailout under his administration.
"I am pleading to the President that he should come out and speak to the nation reasons why he went to the IMF. It is very, very important," he stressed.
Allotey Jacobs made these submissions on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" Wednesday morning.

Nana Addo has become too aloof, distant and standoffish from the masses. He is repeating yentie obiaa in his actions. Put your ears down; you had the goodwill, WHY ARE THE MASSES AGAINST YOU NOW? Yentie obiaaa! We told you reduce the size of your government, did you listen? Mahama told you please have broader consultations on Free SHS, did you listen? Reduce taxes on petroleum and customs, did you listen? Nana, get down from that high horse and engage. Sorry is hard to say but you can at least start by showing it. 110 hospitals, yes we need them, but where is the money? Same as Mahama community day senior high school. He promised to build how many? How many were actualy deivered/
All this long write up do not make sense. It's only a ***barred word*** WHO DON'T CHANGE HIS MIND. In business we call it Force Majeure (Natural Disaster which is beyond Human Control) that has hit Ghana at the time the country has invested heavily in many better future social interventions. All must be wise a little.
Allotey, hear this. Respect is earned, you don't beg for it. We elected Akuffo Addo to be president. He didn't elect any Ghanaian to qualify to be a voter. If we elect you into a position, that alone means it's because the people have respect for you. Now if you claim to be the elected representative of the very people who elected you, when they tell you they don't want something, don't do it if you want them to continue to respect you. If leader who has his ears on the ground knows what the people want and what they abhor, apart from security reports also take time to test the ground yourself. Fact is that Ghanaians had a lot of trust and confidence in akuffo Addo prior to 2016. Unfortunately he has squandered a golden opportunity to have made history . He has not only disappointed Ghanaians but himself too. Simply put he has failed totally. This is the worst time to be an NPP supporter, you walk with your face down. SHAME doesn't kill but it can break the neck.
Okay, we respect him for leading Ghana to the IMF slaughter house. We are told he's the chairman of the Ghana side of the negotiations, we respect him for holding the neck of Ghanaians to be slaughtered by the IMF, we respect him for telling to try him and that he will serve Ghanaians differently. True to his words he has come to serve Ghanaians differently, no president in Ghana's history has used poor people's money to build a cathedral , we respect him for that, we respect him for all the disappointment and hardship he has thrown Ghana into. We respect him for telling the truth, we have money but we are hungry, ye ti Sitka so, ensu Ekom di ye. We respect the president, the first of his kind in the 4th republic.
