Journalist Paul Adom-Otchere has said publicly on his TV programme Good Evening Ghana that he will never use his show to criticise President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government because he has direct access to him to do that.
“I support Akufo-Addo, your support John Mahama; that’s no problem”, Mr Adom-Othcere told his National Democratic Congress critics, adding: “People write to me and say: ‘Why don’t you use your programme to criticise the government?’ Is the programme for you?”
“Do your programme and criticise the government. I don’t understand it. This is private sector”, he fumed.
The Board Chair of the Ghana Airport Company Limited said: “When the Supreme Court ruled in NPP v GBC, they said that the obligation is on the state broadcaster and then you tell me that: ‘Why don’t you criticise the government?’”
“Other people are criticising the government, watch that one”, he retorted.
He said: “Today, we all have media; today we’re all television, so, go on Facebook and ciriticise the government, there’s no problem with that”.
The government, Mr Adom-Otchere noted, “ought to be criticised”.
“Governments are there so that they are criticised” but noted: “If I support Akufo-Addo because of my conviction and I feel there’s something in there that’s not good, that’s not working well, I will not criticise him on this television because I have access to him; I’ll go to him and tell him and say: ‘Mr President, I think so so and so, so so and so’”.
“What some of you might not know is that some of the greatest friends of Akufo-Addo are harder critics of him in camera than you are but you write it on Facebook but they don’t write it on Facebook. That’s the only difference”, Mr Adom-Otchere explained.
“So, you will not ask me that ‘come out and criticise the government; I will not do that, OK’”

I am very sad that Ghana has come to this level. Paul Adom Okyere should be honored by the international journalism bodies that dish out honors to sensationalists whose stock in trade involves fighting ONLY RULING POLITICAL LEADERS. Att least, we all know the level of depravity existing in our traditional authorities. Who were the slave sellers? Who have sold all the lands in the traditional areas and pocketed the proceeds? Who? Who? Your chief takes on several government appointments and gets paid all sorts of money as remunerations, take exgratia on some of them, and clears cars from the ports with waived duties - all due to the position he holds in government appointments. All of a sudden, there is an opportunity presented by economic hardships which is global (Price of petrol has trippled in the United States in 10 months) and he sees the shame of his accummulated receipts from the state and decides to return SOME of those receipts. The honorable and respectable thing to have done would have been to say that "well, I know this is a payment I have earned and is appropriately paid to me and my colleagues on the council. However, considering that this country will need this money more than I will, I am donating it back to the state". That would have been a mark of a stateman. But no, he opportunistically calls out his peers on the council as having received inappropriate payments in the name of ONLY the ex gratia. Nothing about his unpaid import duties, salaries, and other fringe benefits. You are all angry because Paul decides to blow up the lid on his apparent hypocrisy. Are you not ashamed?
@ Milliki, who deceived you that power is going to change in 2024? When I don't pay my schooling relatives school SHS fees anymore? Oh, no! I don't want to sleep in another 4yrs of DUMSO! At least, I now have lights, even though it may be expensive to some!

The way we do our politics is so weird. Most Ghanaians don’t want to accept the fact that we all have different views. You can’t force people to do what you want in terms of politics. If the government is not performing well, let the citizens decide at elections but you can’t force anyone to do your bidding because you want your candidate to be president again.
