The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has lamented the display of opulence in the just-ended regional elections of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Reports that emerged after the just ended elections indicate that some of the candidates distributed cash and other items to delegates.
Delegates in the Ashanti Region were alleged to be the richest among their peers as money reportedly in a bullion van was distributed to them. One candidate said he paid each delegate GHc 1,000
The astute Journalist who says he has once worked for the party claims manipulating voters with money "is not the spirit of the NPP".
Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt said, "This is a new level and I think we should be worried about this. If this is just regional elections I can imagine what will happen during the nationals".
"I know NPP very well to the extent that I even had an office in the NPP headquarters; NPP is not a party that was built on money. It was built on sacrifice and commitment and dedication . . . The kind of work done to build the New Patriotic Party is not what is going on now, you're destroying the party . . . NPP in 1992 is substantially different from NPP 2022. principles have changed, values have changed, committment levels have changed, so much has changed in the NPP and it should be a source of worry for all who want to see the party progress," he admitted.

Forget it
Meanwhile, Kwesi Pratt has asked the party to "forget" about plans to break the '8' if they still intend to influence voters with money.

That is it. When a few people hijack what belongs to the masses, this is what happens. NPP supporters who sacrificed their all for the party when it was in opposition are finding it difficult to make ends meet, today if you don't find yourself in a political position i.e. Minister, deputy, MMDCE, CEO, presidential staffer you are doomed. And yet when it comes to internal party elections money flows like wine. What that means is that what belongs to all of us is in the hands of a few, not by virtue of any hard work by simply because they are closer to the corridors of power. Fortunately every registered voter will be a delegate in 2024. If it were about money John Mahama wouldn't have lost the 2016 elections.
Uncle Kwesi, I am a delegate from Asutifi South, village at Hwediem. 104 kilometres to Kumasi, do I have to pay the trip, hotel or lodging by my self. Stop behaving as a novice in politics. Even it is alleged your party NDC spent Gch 10 million in Ashanti region alone to dethrone Chairman Wontumi.
So you think the delegates in your (P)NDC party don't take bribe before voting? You are a joker. Ask The Church of Pentecost Elder Ofosu Ampofo how much he paid in bribes before being voted Chairman of his corrupt party. Kwesi Pratt is a confused hypocrate. Don't pretend you just descended from the moon to Ghana.
Since when did you care about NPP? Di wo fie asem!!
So people take bribe and vote for bribe givers who are presented to you as the saints who and knowledgeable people ready to solve your problems. Right? How much is involved in the first place for four years? It's unfortunate people underrate the value of this precious commodity called VOTE. They are just wasting it on ***barred word***.
Focus on your NDC/CPP party. such a confused hypocrite
