General Secretary of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says Ghana’s Judicial Service has verified its alliance with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) with its ruling on the right of deputy Speakers to vote in parliament.
According to him, the judiciary has been biased towards the NDC on several occasions – hence, his decision to tag them as an affiliate of the Nana Addo-led government.
"I don’t have any faith in this judiciary and the Supreme Court,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie'.
Mr Asiedu Nketia was responding to the Supreme Court's ruling that will allow the deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Osei-Owusu to vote whiles presiding over proceedings in Parliament.
The court presided over by Justice Jones Dotse, held that the Deputy Speaker does not lose his right to take part in decision-making upon a true and proper interpretation of Article 103 and 104 of the 1992 Constitution.
The court, therefore, held that the passing of the budget on November 30, 2021, in which Joseph Osei-Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker counted himself as part of the quorum, was valid.
Also, the court has struck down order 109(3) of the standing orders of Parliament which prevented a deputy Speaker presiding from voting, as unconstitutional.
However, unhappy Asiedu Nketia said the ruling by the Supreme Court is just to aid the NPP in their quest to pass the E-levy bill.
He maintained the Supreme Court was immoral with its ruling.

You can go to hell, who cares, your ***barred word*** criminal party wrote our constitution with full of criminal intentions, now they’re being removed and you’re crying, shame on you Bad Elder.
So it was the NDC plan to frustrate the government with Bagbin’s fake medical trips abroad using the tax payers money.
Who cares? By the way who are you? Nonentity like you.
If the speaker is absent from parliament for a day or a week, etc, I guess the Speaker/his Office should communicate officially to parliament and deputy speakers’ office for which they /deputies can draw their legal acting powers to act. In the extreme case, when the speaker decides not to communicate and delegate when he is absent from parliament, will the deputy speaker automatically assumed and function in that capacity without a challenge/hesitant from minority demanding official absent letter from ‘’THE SPEAKER’? We pray for occasion like this, where minority will challenge deputy speaker locus to act as the chair of parliament(no formal of absent letter from the speaker to parliament/deputy speakers) let alone vote and participate in debate in order to give ‘’true and proper meaning’’ of supreme 7(S7) recent ruling. GREAT TIMES AHEAD: ITS TIME TO GO FULL HAUL.
Asiedu Nketia if you do not believe in the judges what is strange about that. Your root PNDC murdered judges because they, like you, dont believe in judges. I am surprised that you accepted the Supreme Court decision on John Mahama or that time you believed in judges? Hypocrisy at its peak. There is no way NDC can believe in law. This is a party that was born in blood and its constitution was signed with blood. I sympathise with the youth who knows nothing or the real truth about NDC and so follow this bloody party. Asiedu the only wise man in Ghana, throw away the judges but that will be you. WE stand by the rule of law. The law will triumph.
Hahahaaaa, Asiedu Nketiah hear this, it was the same Supreme Court that declared John Mahama as validly elected in the 2012 election petition, what is your view on the ruling too. When rulings go in your favour the court is right, when it's against you, you don't have faith in them. People vote for their MP's to represent their interests in parliament first and foremost. If you are giving another post as an MP, that is a plus. For eg the people of Bekwai voted for Joseph Osei Owusu to represent them in parliament, he is made the first deputy speaker, does that mean when he is in the chair the people of Bekwai ceases to have a representative? When a deputy speaker is on the chair and a roll call is to be taken, is he counted as an MP or a speaker? If he is counted as a speaker, then the number of MP's reduces from 275 to 274 meanwhile we have 275 MP's in the chamber. Assuming every MP declines the deputy speaker position since it's not by force, what happens. A time will come when nobody will accept the deputy speaker position because of fear of not being able to vote on important national issues when he/she is in the chair. Left to me the first and second deputy speakers should also be non MP's, the first to the right to the substantive speaker and the second to his left. Anytime the speaker leaves the chair, one of them takes over. This is the only way we can stop this ***barred word*** behavior of the MP's.
I honestly don't think this court exercise was needed if not because you guys are using Bagbin to frustrate the government due to the numbers.
Since when? After the 2013 election verdict? You are one person who has done WICKED to Ghana. You supported PNDC to kill others for their businesses and stop the teaching of History in our schools. For fear of being exposed. Most of the youth who are following you don't know your party NDC's history. NDC is Ghana's COVID-19. More explanations have to be done to palm wine tappers like you to understand SC rulings.
Asiedu Nketia is only one person out of 30 million people in Ghana, so if he has no faith in the Judiciary, it is not a big deal. Unless you want to tell me Asiedu Nketia is more important than 30 million people. Ignore Asiedu Nketia and his group who want everything in Ghana for themselves. They're thinking of this verdict only in terms of E-levy. E-levy will pass.
The supreme court does not expect anyone to repose faith in it. The court works with laws, fairness and equity so if you are wrong or culprit, your faith will be dashed. For Mr Nketia you are not truthful and you always want to twist the laws of the country for political gains so you will always deliberately accuse our judges for reasons know to you. The are the same Judges you hailed in 2013 when they ruled for Mahama in the election petition
