Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen says a northern candidate is destined to lead the party as its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
Though he was not ready to mention names, he, however, gave a clue that he will be someone of a Mamprusi decent.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that he will give up his position as deputy General Secretary of the party and campaign for him vigorously to win the candidature as flagbearer for the party and become the next president of this country.
"That fortunate character comes from the northern part of Ghana . . . he is well known in this country," he told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.
"I cannot give you a name now since the party has not yet open the floodgate for campaign to begin," he added.
Your posters can be out there but don’t campaign now – John Boadu
General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has admonished members of the party aspiring for top positions not to campaign.
According to him, although posters of aspirants can be seen outside, no member should embark on campaign as it will serve as a distraction to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“We see posters around and that is acceptable but no one should start campaigning.
“If you start campaigning, you’ll distract the President from the mandate given him. He will be distracted by these campaigns by our own people, so, I urge you all to observe these rules and regulations.”
The NPP will later this year in December hold its National Delegates Conference in the Ashanti Region.
The conference will start on December 18 and end on December 20.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is in his last term as president of Ghana, and that automatically takes him out of competition for the slot of the flagbearer of the NPP.
Many have highly tipped Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the vacant slot but there is no denying the fact that his closest contender in this race, should he confirm his interest, will be Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen.
Only a few months into the second term of the current government and with at least three years more to go for the next general elections in the country, the interest in who leads the NPP is already gaining momentum.

@STOP THE TRIBAL. You have said it all and what may win them another term, BUT will they listen. Trust me, instead of fighting as a group, they will engage in individualistic interest and will let the chance pass them by.
Bawumia is a humble and a smart politician. He speaks to the hearts of people. He has matured very fast politically and he is a great force to reckon in our contemporary Ghana politics. There are many good competetors to him in his party but he stands tall above all. It is a fact that a good number of people are rooting for Alan than any of the other candidates. If NPP can work out to avoid any antagonistic contest and forge a deal with Alan and Bawumia camps it will become a blessing to the nation. Ghana needs the two for the continuing formidable transformation of the nation by Nana Addo. Bawumia has been an outstanding VP and no minister of Trade and Industry in Ghana history has ever done a quarter of what Alan has achieved in that sector. Bawumia and Alan have are critical part of Nana Addo's government. They are both refined and hard working. Bawumia has become an astute political activist. His digitization policies constitute a bedrock in the fight against corruption to advance Ghana economic transformation. Alan has become a successful negotiator and manager for the establishment of the local and foreign industries to create more jobs for a better future of the nation. We need the two to run the nation after Nana. Alan is older but Bawumia is the VP. It is politically more correct to run Bawumia as candidate and Alan as the running mate.. POP
@Eric, I thought Akuffo Addo and Bawumia promised they will take ghana to the promise land in 18months during the 2016 elections, what happened? Or you talking about another promised land we are yet to kno. Massa now yeni ate ooooo, akofwi s3m na omo kakyer3 y3n 2020, we shine wona eyes rough this time. apuuuuuuuuuuuu
The most suitable and qualified to succeed Nana Addo to win power for NPP is Dr. Bawumia for the following reasons: 1.He's competent, qualified and the closest to the presidency 2.He's the most active/visible and the best vice president ever in the history of the country 3.His tract record and achievements as head of economic management team weaned Ghana from the IMF, helped the gov't fulfilled these hard-to-do policies and promises like FSHS,1D1F, etc, and again, managed the economy well during and after COVID19 pandemic 4.He brings more votes from the norther part of Ghana to NPP than any other person since the formation of the party, in fact, he'd contributed making the party more attractive in the northern part of Ghana 5.He contributed immensely/enormously and tangibly to both 2016 and 2020 NPP victories, in my candid view, without him partnering Nana Addo, it would have been very difficult for the later to taste presidency 6.He was the STAR witness for NPP during that landmark electoral dispute that changed the entire electoral process of Ghana, it was a cross-road for the great Osono party. This was s major sacrifice for the party 7.His economic strength and acumen hasn't still been matched by the main opposition 8.He's the most dreaded or threat to the NDC, in fact, a torn in the flesh of NDC 9.He's the most appealed to all the religious bodies in Ghana 10.He's the most appealed to the elites and floating voters 11.He's the golden opportunity for the Osono Party to forever shatter the 'Akan Party' tag 12.He and his wife are energetic, charismatic and electrifying campaign machinery 13. His youthful and attractive appearance is his advantage. 14 He's credited to have changed the traditional way of campaigning for economic focus/attention and lecture debates To say the least, it's obvious, Bawumia is a gem, and gift for Ghana. He appears to be the emerging modern Ghanaian leader who will take Ghana off to the promise land. Long live Bawumia, long live Ghana
