The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has described the action of the Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya East Constituency, Hon Mavis Hawa Koomson as “disturbing” and “selfish” for firing gunshots at registration centre.
CODEO has however condemned the actions of the Special Development Initiatives Minister for firing a gun at a voters’ registration centre at Kasoa in the Central Region.
The sector Minister defended her decision to carry a firearm to the centre as a means of protection saying “my police escort had not started work yet. So that is a mechanism I have adopted in his absence.”
She further explained that she went to the location because she heard her opponent had bussed people who are not from the constituency but from other places to the venue to register.
“I realised the lives of my people were in danger. So I wanted to scare the people. I fired the warning shots. I didn’t direct it at anybody,” she told Adom News.
The Project Manager for CODEO Rhoda Osei Afful expressing her irritation on PM Express towards the act described it as disturbing and unfortunate, lamenting the unwillingness of some party executives to go through the appropriate mechanisms to air their grievances during electoral processes.
According to Ms Osei, the action of the Special Development Initiatives Minister creates room for violence to fester. She called on the security agencies to exhibit swiftness in getting to the bottom of the development.
“We understand the need for political parties to be vigilant about the process but at the same time vigilance must be conducted within the framework of law. So we cannot just resort to all manner of means just because we want to protect our interest. This is quite selfish and very much against the interest of the country and I feel we all must condemn this in the strongest possible terms,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Central Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with voter registration disturbances in Kasoa.
The suspects, Sulley Razak, Majeed Amadu, Suleman Yusuf and Razak Musa have been provisionally charged with disruption of the process, discharge of firearm without authority and causing unlawful damage.

Arrest Hawa too. She had a gun and shot it!
RHODA SHOULD PRAY NEVER TO HAVE SUCH AN EXPERIENCE!
THE VIOLENCE AT KASOA AND OTHER PLACES ARE ALL ORCHESTRATED BY NDC. HOW MANY TIMES DID NOT THE TOP OFFICIALS OF NDC DECLARE THAT THERE COULD BE NO NEW REGISTRATION. THEY SAID THAT BECAUSE OF ALL THE VIOLENCE THAT THEY WERE PLANNING TO DISRUPT THE REGISTRATION. HOW MANY TIMES DID NOT NDC CLAIM THAT THERE WOULD BE BLOOD SHED. THEY KNEW OF WHAT THEY HAD PLANNED TO DO. THEY HAD DECLARED THEIR INTENTIONS IN VARIOUS FORUM AND THEY ARE EXECUTING THIS AGENDA. GHANA POLICE AND ALL WELL MEANING GHANAIANS SHOULD HOLD NDC ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY VIOLENCE AND ANY SOUL LOST DURING THIS REGISTRATION. IT IS VERY SAD THAT CODEO AND CIVIL SOCIETIES WERE QUIET AND ARE STILL SILENT ON THE NUMEROUS DECLARATION OF VIOLENCE ISSUED BY NDC. WHAT HAPPENED THAT NOW THEY HAVE FOUND A VOICE FOR HOWA YAKUBU. THIS IS VERY SHAMEFUL. SO THEY WANTED HOWA TO BE ATTACKED FOR NDC TO CLAIM ACHIEVING THEIR GOAL OF CAUSING VIOLENCE?
SELFISH EVIL WOMAN. THE WORLD IS WATCHING YOU ALL.
