Editor-in-Chief of Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has slammed the Electoral Commission (EC) for refusing to postpone or cancel the voters' registration exercise.
The EC commenced the new voters' registration exercise on Tuesday, June 30 despite opposition to stop the exercise.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) filed a law suit against the EC but the Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of the electoral management body empowering it to conduct the registration exercise amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
In spite of the EC's assurances to Ghanaians that it will enforce the COVID-19 safety protocols, Ghana's case count keeps increasing.
The country's case count has risen to over 25,000 and over 21,000 people have been declared recovered or discharged and 139 people have unfortunately lost their lives.
There are however consistent calls on the EC to call off the ongoing registration exercise.
Kwesi Pratt is also unhappy with the seemingly adamant posture of the EC, asking why the Commission wants to risk the lives of Ghanaians all in the name of compiling a new voters' register.
"If we had not conducted this voter registration exercise, would Ghana collapse?" he questioned.
He appealed for the registration exercise to be possibly cancelled to protect Ghanaians against the deadly disease.
"This pandemic disease has spread across the nation and we are saying we should go and register irrespective. When you oppose it, they will say you don't want to register but you will go and vote during the elections. Why? If we don't do the register but only go and vote, you have minimized the risk maybe by more than 50%. So, minimizing the risk is also important'', he said on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo'.

I find it very difficult to comprehend what Kwesi Pratt really makes of certain national issues. How I wished he could disparately make his views genuinely, devoid of playing his usual populistic card and cynicism. I hope, Kwesi is mindful of the fact that we have medication for malaria yet to date people still die of malaria and we live with it among other prevalent diseases. The point I'm trying to make here is that, no matter how much effort we make, there would always be a fallout. Not to mention Covid-19 which had been declared a pandemic by the WHO. Even the advanced economy like the US which could envisage the dangers such diseases like corona could pose on our lives was taken by surprise. I think given the nature of Covid-19 and its' complexities in terms of as to date the protocols backed by science to curtail its prevalence, our dear country Ghana and our President are not doing badly at all. Then, the mortality rate with respect to other statistics is relatively very low in Ghana and Kwesi cannot just play it down with pessimism and propaganda in favor of the NDC
HYPOCRATE LIKE YOU AFTER YOU HAVE REGISTERED WANT EC TO HAULT REGISTRATION.DIDN;T YOU KNOW THERE WAS COVID-19 WHEN YOU WENT TO REGISTER?
Kwesi will Ghana also collapse if we don't vote? Since you and your NDC cares so much about Ghanaians, why don't you people also say that because of COVID-19 you have agreed that we shouldn't vote. You are too hypocrite, you don't want a new register, but you want to vote in December. If the registration is bad as you are claiming , why have you and your NDC leaders registered. You are not the only wise man in Ghana so let us think waiiii.
Kwesi Pratt has registered, this guy and Mornah are the most dangerous politicians in the nation.
You belong to history We have gone past your parochial and political interest. Pratt should go back to school to learn more about his profession. He sounds like a desperate politician in opposition. Highly disappointed Journalist without any principles.
JANE MENSAH, i salute you this morning and i say continue to do your work as the wisdom and protection of GOD is upon you and the EC.We all know what the immediate former of EC came to do.You are serving the PEOPLE OF GHANA and not a PARTICULAR political party. For MR.I KNOW ALL(KWESI PRATT) ,he is still DREAMING.
SOME PEOPLE NEVER ACQUIRE WISDOM AND MATURITY WITH OLD AGE. THEY ARE ALWAYS NEEDED TO BE HELPED WITH TENDERNESS AND CARE. UNFORTUNATELY THEY CANNOT KEEP THEIR MOUTH SHUT.
PRPRATT NOBODY CAN TELL WHETHER OR NOT GHANA WILL COLLAPSE IF WE DO NOT REGISTER. WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT THE SITUATION WILL CAUSE UNCERTAINTIES WHICH IS DANGEROUS FOR THE NATION. A GOOD AND VISIONARY LEADERS PROVIDE DIRECTION TO AVOID UNCERTAINTIES. WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT COVID-19 WILL NOT STOP IN GHANA EVEN IF WE STOP REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS IN GHANA. TO DO THAT WILL COMPOUND THE PROBLEMS OF GHANA. IN THAT CASE WE SHALL FIGHT COVID-19 AND AT THE SAME TIME FACE CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS. WITH REGISTRATION AND ELECTION WE SHALL LEFT ONLY WITH COVID-19 TO FIGHT AND IT IS BETTER TO FIGHT ONE THAN TO FIGHT THREE.
I heard Kwami this morning saying that Kwesi Pratt has registered. If that is the case then this man is really a blessed hypocrite. A few days ago, Pratt created the impression that he was so afraid to register due to Covid_19, yet he has gone to register with the speed of light. The hypocrite has shamelessly returned with his card in his pocket and still opposing the registration and mongering fear. Such characters deserve to be shot dead.
Enemies are worried. Kwesi, keep quiet massa ; your party NDC is not coming to power again. Now we have a lot of ambulances for you when you collapse.
