NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi Constituency in the Western Region, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer has said that it was unfortunate members of his party could not go by the social distancing protocols especially to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
According to him, agitations made by some citizens calling on party executives to call off the primaries due to the spread of the pandemic could not be possible because, "life must go on in gradual process since the country cannot come to a total standstill waiting for the disappearance of COVID-19".
However, Hon. Agyapa Mercer noted that it was not a deliberate act by party members to go against COVID-19 protocols rather circumstances beyond their control.
The NPP MP as a panelist on UTV's 'Adekye Nsroma' newspaper discussion programme promised such an act will not happen again.
" . . I cannot say all COVID-19 protocols were observed at our just ended party primaries held last Suturday, but I am very sure those actions were not deliberately breached," he said.
