Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama says the coronavirus pandemic has exposed the Akufo-Addo led government over their highly-touted robust economy since they took over from the Mahama administration after the 2016 general elections.
According to him, until the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government propagandists made Ghanaians understood and believe that the country’s economy is robust and could withstand any shock.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe mockingly indicated that the highly-touted robust economy now is in the intensive care being supported with ventilators.
“A few months ago, the NPP government propagandists made us understand that the economy is robust and resilient. The economy that they have constantly touted that is robust should be able to withstand any shock, but today, due to the COVID-19 the economy is now in the intensive care with ventilators to revive it,” he mocked.
He reiterated that “the economy needs oxygen to the extent that in less than 2 months we have to go back to the IMF for USD$ 1billion in order to pay our debts and other things”.
He again indicated that the Akufo-Addo government is considering going for a moratorium from the World Bank and IMF in order to pay the country’s monthly loan interest for the next 5 months totalling USD$500 million.
“So quite clearly it means that all this while this government was making noise about the economic growth, it seems the fundamentals of the economy is as not strong as the government painted it to be. It also seems that the economy was built on straw," he averred.
He, however, lamented that the COVID-19 has put everything done on the economy asunder, as President Akufo-Addo has confessed that it will take 3 to 4 years for the country to recover from the novel coronavirus and its associated effect on the economy.

AS DR BAWUMIA WISELY SAID, THE NDC DON'T READ OR DON'T LIKE READING.UNFOTUNATELY IT APPEARS THAT THEIR SO CALLED EDUCATED ELITE ALSO DON'T READ ARE EQUALLY U$£LESS LIKE THIER FLAGBEARER JDM. LIKE FLAG BEARER LIKE SPECIAL AIDE! These m0rons are not aware that even the United States economy is messed up due to this pandemic? Their 1diocy will show in the number of votes they will gather in December. They keep annoying voters, even in these serious times. NDC is such a waste!
Common Sense, they say is not common. You should have being the last to make such pronouncement, reflecting on how you led the country less than four years ago. The things you as opposition should have done was to sympathize with the ruling government and stop these senseless attacks as though they prayed for the advent of the Pandemic. For the pandemic is global and almost every government is at her wit end. Thus, such attacks go a long way attract the venom of the populace and return sympathy to the ruling government, since all is now aware that it is a global issue and even those we used to look up to are all on tentacles. You are therefore now loosing grounds to the ruling government. You should quickly conduct a study on the ground and be informed of the type of communication strategy to adopt as quickly as possible to remain relevant.
it is only an I d I o t who will make such and infantile argument
I wonder how the NDC believes this kind of opposition is going to win them any support from well-meaning Ghanaians. Only the uninformed d3ft will fall for this kind of politicking. Unfortunately the uninformed voter population has dwindled from the days of JJ in 1992. Opposition doesn't mean oppose the government in anything it does. A competent opposition is the one that can decipher between the blunders of the government that they can take advantage of and the good policies of the government that is winning the hearts and the minds of the populace. Instead of positioning themselves and aligning their policies with the good things the government is doing in this covid-19 crises, all you are doing is criticizing indiscriminately when the good thinkers (locally and internationally) are lauding the government’s efforts. Some of these warped assertions like this one by a lawyer of Edudzie Tamakloe stock can only cost you sympathies. Look at some w3ird suggestion about SSNIT sharing monies that came from his boss the other time. I felt embarrassed when SSNIT responded by pointing out that the law does not permit them to go that way. Didn't President Mahama know this or couldn’t he have known? God help us with a competent opposition that can wrestle power one day from NPP. For we cannot afford to have a one party democracy.
Is there any Economy in the world that is still robust in this coronavirus outbreak, even the developed countries are struggling with their economics tumbling and crashing down ,how much a 3rd world country, NDC never ceases to amaze me with their level of incompetence. Please reason like a learned person, sometimes I wonder how some of you managed to pass your law exams, not surprised though because you are special aid to the incompetentt ONE
EVEN WELL DEVELOPED ECONOMIES ARE CRUMBLING TO THE ECONOMIC RAMIFICATION OF CORONA VIRUS. HE SHOULD ENDEAVOUR TO LEARN BEFORE MAKING SUCH UNINTELLIGENT STATEMENTS.
What did you and your pay master do to the economy even when there was no coronavirus? You only want your voice to be heard empty 'konko'.Your boss destroyed everything in this country leaving for us huge debts and collapsed every institutions and agencies. You only need power to come and destroy and kill as the Bible said so who are you? 'SATAN
@ Me Man Nkoso. Your abrasive intervention on behalf of your sinking party makes interesting reading. You will agree with me that the little humanitarian intervention by Mahama and his NDC party in the Covid-19 pandemic has taken the shine* away from you and clearly exposed your party's woeful embarrassment in the handling of food distribution to the needy ones. The mere mention of Mahama's name sends shivers down your spine hence your daily attacks on him. Your last straw for survival is the New Voters Register which will finally give way to your drowning. You don't have a campaign message now. SHS fiasco, 1D1F yaamutu, 1V1D baakomi, 1C1 Million Dollars Sika- no wo he?? NPP is the most desperate party now and has lost complete sense of direction. Tagging Mahama with the Airbus scandal and using Martin Amidu to peruse him will crash land. The writing is clearly on the wall- take it or leave it; Mahama will be back- credit Arnold Schwarzenegger"
