Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. is making a subtle call for a total lockdown of Ghana in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kwesi Pratt expressed deep worry over the implementation of the partial lockdown announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo saying though it is laudable, it doesn’t help much to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
To him, the partial lockdown defeats the very purpose for which it is decreed by the President because there are still many people wandering about in town.
He pointed out that looking at the rapid spread of the virus and its fatality ratio, it is prudent the President causes more inconveniences for Ghanaians.
" . . 152 confirmed cases of the virus infection in Ghana is enough proof that the country is already in a critical situation and needs urgent solutions," he added.
Expressing his fright over the possibility that the number of cases might increase exponentially, Mr. Pratt told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo' that Ghana has only two alternatives in the wake of the Covid-19.
The alternatives, he stated, are either to inconvenience people or to stop death but the latter is of more importance than the former.
To him, the only option to inconveniencing Ghanaians is death and there cannot be any middle way.
“The argument that people will be inconvenienced and so on. It is a bad argument because we have two choices; to inconvenience people or to stop death. So, you inconvenience and you stop death . . . We need to inconvenience people a lot more than we’re doing now because the alternative is death’’.
He feared less stricter rules by President Nana Akufo-Addo might result in a huge count of deaths.
“The coronavirus has no legs. It has no car. It has no independent means of mobility. It’s only means of mobility is human beings. So, if you want to stop it, you stop human beings from moving. There’s no alternative to that . . . "we have two clear choices. To inconvenience people or to stop death. Which are we choosing? Are we choosing inconvenience over the prevention of death?’’ he questioned.
Though he admits a lot of Ghanaians are already inconvenienced under the partial lockdown, “we need more inconvenience’’.

Kwesi Pratt is back to it again, playing the populistic card of hypocrisy. What does Kwesi understand by the total and partial lockdown? Just assuming that total lockdown is yet the way to go, is irresponsible taking the Ghanaian unique circumstance into consideration. The partial lockdown that the President encourages, prescribes the human face approach which reflects our way of life and the means to satisfy it, in light of the infrastructure at hand and avoiding unnecessary hardship- the stress is on the word 'unnecessary hardship'. Any irresponsible person can wake up today and say total lockdown is the way forward, without showing how to implement it. It seems Kwesi, in his usual opposition, is prescribing a total lockdown because the President had gone for partial lockdown.
TALK TALK. IMAGINE THE CURRENT ACTIONS OF THE MILITARY IN ALL OF GHANA; AFRC/PNDC AGAIN? MISTER, GO BARK AT OTHER THINGS.
this very person will turn round and blame the president and the government for any hardship that comes about as a result of what he is asking for. if the ndc thinks this is the time to resurrect their dying campaign, they will be very mistaken
Fo*olish man, do you know what you are talking about? Total lockdown? You have made yourself expert in every field. Mr Know All. Look at his teeth
Our situations are not the same. It will be better to find a solution that will suit the current exigencies in our country instead of going for a blanket lock down and that is why I agree with our President on the partial lock down.
I agree with Mr Pratt.Italy,Spain and USA are still paying a high price for delaying in "Lockdowning". Let us learn from China.Tough Times require tough decisions. If we delay in "lockdowning" we will go the Italy and Spain way.May be when people want to see thousands of coffins line up before they understand. Mankind's very survival is at stake.if we #lockdown GH now by June we will be out of danger but if we don't Italy and Spain are staring us in the face. #LockdownGH Now!
Are there any protocols on who should be quarantine and who should not. Do I have to belong to a political party in order to qualify or break protocols.. Is the government serious in fighting the pandemic or just informing Ghanaians with figures. Is it true that a popular party member broke protocol by taking family member away from quarantine which resulted in death.
Fellow citizens, is there any difference between the president inviting the clergy to jubilee house to pray for Ghana in this pandemic era and an angel/prophet/pastor conjuring a passport from his shoes. There are information service vans that cant educate the public, NCCE is not educating the public on basic hygiene, there are water tankers in town but cannot supply water to the needy areas, no tv channel to educate our children using cartoons on basic hygiene. Yet we see nothing wrong with the president inviting the clergy. Are we dumb in fighting this pandemic or lack of common sense
Kwasi Pratt why did you come to the studio? You should have stayed in your hour house. Stay home and stop talking. If you don't go to the studio to talk nobody will be affected. But if the market women don't I will not get food to eat, period. So you should stay home.
This man is so diabolic. He wants a total lockdown because when people start going hungry, they will start insulting the president and the government making them unpopular. I’ve never trusted this man in my life.
