The thousands of diasporaians trooping to Ghana to experience the Year of Return, wouldn't have come in their numbers if the declaration had been made by former President Mahama's government, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has observed.
Instead of promoting and marketing Ghana, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako claims a government of John Mahama would have traded that for the importation of two terrorists popularly referred to as GITMO 2.
Some years ago, a section of the Ghanaian public raised security concerns when the government of former President Mahama decided to accept two Yemenis, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby.
According to Mr. Antwi-Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi, such a move by John Mahama could have easily attracted terrorists into the country but he "cared less about the citizens, his only concern was the papers that filled his pocket".
The NPP Chairman further remarked that it takes an experienced leader like President Akufo-Addo to market Ghana and make it the number one tourist destination point in the world.
"In my candid opinion, if JM had declared this year as the Year of Return, the Diasporaians wouldn't have showed up.
Even the Guinea fowls (akonfems) that flew from Ghana to Burkina Faso under his watch wouldn't have even returned. If his own Burkinabe akonfems wouldn't come, how much more people from the diaspora?", he quizzed.
Chairman Wontumi, was speaking on the positive effect the Year of Return has had on Ghana's economy and how it has marketed the country to the world.
According to the NPP Chairman "it is only a blessing that the Year of Return declaration was made under President Akufo-Addo.
If this declaration had been made under former President Mahama, majority of Diasporaians who have come here today would have given it a second thought and never stepped here. Some of them would have considered it as an online scam from the government of Ghana."
Last Friday, President Akufo-Addo, launched the “Beyond the Return, The Diaspora Dividend” Initiative, at a brief ceremony at the Kempisnki Hotel in Accra.
As the ‘Year of Return’ draws to a close, President Akufo-Addo stated that the rationale of ‘Beyond the Return’ is to “engage Africans in the diaspora and all persons of African descent more positively in areas such as trade and investment co-operation, and skills and knowledge development”.

Peacefmonline have made it an agenda to have odd and negative Mahama news as headlines during weekends or holidays. This agenda has gone on for several months, it makes me wonder if Daily guide editor runs this platform...
Don't you guys think the politicians laugh at us when they see us divided and insulting each other? Let cool heads prevail. we have only one Ghana irrespective of our tribe or geographical location. The interesting thing is only few really enjoy while the rest of us have to work hard to provide for our families. Let's debate respectively bcos it doesn't matter what we say the politicians will continue to say whatever they wanted to say. I'm laughing loudly at some of the posted comments not bcos the comments are fanny, just that the politicians don't care about what we say or do not say about their opinions.
IF THE YEAR OF RETURN IS NOT AN ACHIEVEMENT THEN WHAT IS IT? ANOTHER NDC !D!0t! ANTI PROGRESSIVES!!!
Year of return is not achievement though good idea, government should not be proud off. The event should be for the whole of west Africa and part of east/central Africa. Discovering one's root is an individual adventure. If the administration is able to build 350 schools within 18 months as said by the president, then that would have been an achievement. Lets demand accountability from all leaders who lie their way only to enrich themselves, family members and few friends at the expense of majority of Ghanaians. Else the country will not develop. NDC/NPP are the same shiit and very clueless. NO wonder the uprising of Western Togoland because this issue would not have arisen if our leaders both past and present were very honest and developed a common sense approach in developing the nation instead of enriching themselves and families. We have a long way to go. A nation full of idiiiots
Clown. You have nothing to say.All you do is to mention JM's name all the time.
At your age if this is the haircut you wear then no wonder you act like a baby. There is no elderly person to guide him, afterall, the president who can tell him sensible himself mindless, so there is nothing that can come from this guys head. MORON!
Nyimpa na woegimi saaa yi? This guy is a disgrace to the whole npp party. Ah, how can a whole chairman of the stronghold of npp behave like a lunatic. And they call themselves elites. If you have a villager like this for a chairman then it portrays what the whole party represents.
Massa you aren't a member of the NPP you are a gutter NDC member, who told you we the NPP people don't like what Chairman Wontumi is doing? A.b.oa like you dont ever hide behind the internet to claim you are NPP, we dont accept p.ig.s like you and JM and @Feeling Chairman (not the one who posted first but the 3rd) on.y3 s)).mli
