The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it is “appalled and disgusted by the act of political desperation” on the part of the Akufo-Addo-led government demonstrated by a video circulating on social media, in which a person who identifies himself as an “Ambassador of Free SHS” is seen at a Senior High School (SHS) campaigning for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) relative to the upcoming 2020 elections.
In the said video, the gentleman, who is clad in a polo shirt with the inscription “Free SHS Ambassador” embossed on it, could be heard telling young SHS students to campaign to their colleagues and parents to vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections.
The NDC, in a statement signed by Mr Sammy Gyamfi, National Communication Officer, said: “The deafening silence of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) on this matter and other similar acts of impunity comes as no surprise to us. We are not oblivious of the machinations to use various state institutions to give the underperforming Akufo-Addo government an undue incumbency advantage in the lead up to the 2020 general elections.”
The NDC said the “hypocrisy of the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service in turning a blind eye to such infractions to the tranquility of the teaching and learning environment in our Senior High Schools must be roundly condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians, especially parents and guardians”.
The statement noted that the NDC was aware of the widespread activities of the Free SHS Ambassadors on the campuses of Senior High Schools across the length and breadth of the country, “with the tacit approval and support of the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service.”
The party said it will not sit idly by for the GES and MoE, which the NDC described as “agents and assigns of the Akufo-Addo government”, to use Senior High Schools as centres for advancing the “narrow and parochial interest of President Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party.”
The NDC has given the MoE and GES a 48-hour ultimatum to denounce and halt the political campaign activities of the Free SHS Ambassadors on the campuses of Senior High Schools or brace themselves for a counter group called ‘Ambassadors of Better and Quality Free SHS’, who will soon storm various schools across the country with the message: “A Better and Quality Free SHS programme.”

@Mohammed Abdulai. Thanks for your analysis. It is devoid of politics, let the truth be said as it is. The infractions, negligence, greed, incompetence, lies, insults, daylight robbery, warped judgment, lack of foresight and vision, intolerance and many other social and political vices of the NDC are simply beyond imagination. Please, tell them again to let the NPP have their piece of mind to govern the country well for Ghanaians.
Did you actually read this over again before posting it here. Some of are just senselessssssss in this country to say the least.
The truth must be told, what NDC did to health insurance scheme for it to become unattractive to Ghanaians is so fresh on our minds, we will never sit down for same to happen to Free SHS. NDC can go burrn the sea or hug any high voltage transformer. The children need to know where we coming from. If power is given to the NDC means the future of these little ones have been compromised
If the ***barred word*** Akamba can campaign in a school in the North and call on the students to hoot at the president then why can't anyone also be allowed to campaign for the program After all if anybody hates the scheme so much they can always withdraw their kids and send them to private schools.
NDC is so desperate to destroy the effect of free SHS that they will do anything to achieve that aim. Which school did this take place and what is the name of the Ambassador. By the way had GES appointed free SHS ambassadors to go and indoctrinate students of senior high schools? This is another handiwork of people who are bent on destroying the free SHS policy but it won't work. Shame on those who put this ***barred word*** video together.
Why is NDC so afraid of the effect of the free SHS on their electoral fortunes.
NDC is confuse party , NDC is doing everything possible to find fault with the Free SHS policy .this desperate attempt to malign the policy will never wash. And in any case if the children are being told the truth about free SHS, what’s wrong with it. How many people believe Sammy Gyemfi.
Another use--lesssss Sammy Gyamfi is creating fear and panic .Now NDC their own problem and escalate same to court the attention of Ghanaians . NPP as a serious party will not stoop so low to do that because beneficiary knows clearly that NDC will cancel the FREE SHS when mistakenly they win power so they will also not going to vote for them.\ No reasonable parent who is benefiting from this excellent policy will vote against the policy and subsequently pay his/her children. It will happen .NDC are fond of changing policies in Ghana ,for instance Former president kuffour 4 years SHS duration was changed to 3 years as currently in operation.
This is photoshop ghanaians, check the printing on the T-shirt.9
NPP please all these are needless, leave the little kids alone to study. If you believe what you are doing is beneficial to Ghanaian s, why worry yourself over all these unnecessary noise. Just let Ghanaian s to speak for themselves. Now campaigning in schools is allowed. you are too desperate and not sure of yourself.
