The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it is “appalled and disgusted by the act of political desperation” on the part of the Akufo-Addo-led government demonstrated by a video circulating on social media, in which a person who identifies himself as an “Ambassador of Free SHS” is seen at a Senior High School (SHS) campaigning for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) relative to the upcoming 2020 elections.
In the said video, the gentleman, who is clad in a polo shirt with the inscription “Free SHS Ambassador” embossed on it, could be heard telling young SHS students to campaign to their colleagues and parents to vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections.
The NDC, in a statement signed by Mr Sammy Gyamfi, National Communication Officer, said: “The deafening silence of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) on this matter and other similar acts of impunity comes as no surprise to us. We are not oblivious of the machinations to use various state institutions to give the underperforming Akufo-Addo government an undue incumbency advantage in the lead up to the 2020 general elections.”
The NDC said the “hypocrisy of the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service in turning a blind eye to such infractions to the tranquility of the teaching and learning environment in our Senior High Schools must be roundly condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians, especially parents and guardians”.
The statement noted that the NDC was aware of the widespread activities of the Free SHS Ambassadors on the campuses of Senior High Schools across the length and breadth of the country, “with the tacit approval and support of the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service.”
The party said it will not sit idly by for the GES and MoE, which the NDC described as “agents and assigns of the Akufo-Addo government”, to use Senior High Schools as centres for advancing the “narrow and parochial interest of President Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party.”
The NDC has given the MoE and GES a 48-hour ultimatum to denounce and halt the political campaign activities of the Free SHS Ambassadors on the campuses of Senior High Schools or brace themselves for a counter group called ‘Ambassadors of Better and Quality Free SHS’, who will soon storm various schools across the country with the message: “A Better and Quality Free SHS programme.”

DESPERATE GOVERNMENT AND NPP PARTY AND THEIR DESPERATE MEASURES WHICH WILL STILL NOT WASH!
NDC are the cause of all their misfortune. It enamates from greed. I remember very well that even the Free Education for northerners was begrat with all sorts of problems to the extent that whereas their southern brothers were in school, they from the north on Free Education stayed home for months ubend. Even with this small number of students, you couldn't cater for them, how much more that of the whole country. Again, NDC made it seem like it will take us 20 years to get Free Education nationwide. Now somebody is implementing it with ease. The food for the students is even better than when we were students 30 to 40 years ago. Hear cases of students eating a tin of sardine each and eggs, etc. Assuming NDC were not selfish and thinking about how they would only send their kids outside for their education, the credit would have been theirs. Now, they have lost that opportunity and are certainly bound to lose 2020 as well. If you don't go to heaven, don't blame Jesus
