Former Spokesperson of the defunct Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), Major (rtd) Osahene Boakye Gyan, has disclosed that the alleged coup-plot by some three men does not add up.
He says what is believed to have transpired among the alleged coup plotters and the statement issued by the government can not be described as an assassination attempt on the president.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia program, the former military coup leader explained that he could not fathom why somebody will risk his life to stage a coup when there’s only one year to elections.
"The government could have explained that there was an assassination attempt on the President because these people are not men enough to even stage a coup, without even military officers involved," he stated.
Major (rtd) Boakye Gyan, who was one of the main architects of the June 4th uprising, however, explained that thorough investigations should be conducted into the alleged operations of these coup plotters.
"They should be arraigned before the court, but I believe that this is much ado about nothing," he added.
He added that they may be preparing for an escalation of the Alavanyo crisis to destabilize the country.
