Multimedia Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, says there is everything wrong with the NMC’s report about his documentary.
According to him, he never expected anything less from the government agency, National Media Commission(NMC).
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that though they respect the decision of the committee, they do not agree with the commission’s report.
"For me, I know I have done my job as a journalist and I believe every discerning Ghanaian knows that what I did was in the interest of the public," he said.
He added that he is not against any government or party in power and will never serve any government’s interest.
"I will continue do my work as a journalist but I believe the National Media Commission would have done better with their report," he added.
He however reiterated the need for journalists to continue doing their work without any fear or favour.
In March 2019, Joy News produced a documentary purporting that the State was complicit in the training of a supposed militia that used the former seat of government, the Osu Castle, as its training grounds.
But, after it was petitioned, the NMC said the documentary goes against GJA’s code of ethics although the focus on the group operating from the Castle was in the interest of the public.
The Commission among other things said the use of some photos and footage in the documentary were not properly related to the original focus of the story.
“In the end, the Commission found out that the attempt to expose the fact that the group operated from the Castle was in the public interest. However, in the attempt, the investigation had not been consistent in following the ethical standards defined by the Ghana Journalists Association’s code of ethics, particularly guideline 23, which states that ‘a journalist ensures that photographs and multimedia content adequately reflect an event and do not highlight an incident out of context’,” the Commission stated in its report.

Manasseh, at this point all you can do is to use you journalistic experience to get the government out of power so that at least you and your other colleagues journalists can lead without fear or favor again. It is very ironic that when John Mahama was in power everything you did was used by the npp, especially nana addo and barwumia to speak against the NDC yet when he came to power, every work you do is judged poor and bad. I remember when you went to Burkina Faso as undercover to investigate a vehicle that was given to the presidency, no one harrassed you the way you being harrassed this way. All journalists in Ghana who want their peace should join hand and campaign against this bogus government
Manasseh Azure, I can bet you that you did not produce that documentary. This film was produced by the Ndc and you were blackmailed to put your name on it because of your investigative report about Mahama about the Ford saga. For Joy Fm, check what Ofosu Ampofo said about them on the infamous tape. Where did you capture D Eye group holding arms as you portrayed in your documentary? Did you ever see the group during the Ayawaso West by election? And you continue deceive the whole world that there's everything wrong with the findings of the NMC. You should know that you have lost your credibility in Ghana and the whole world forever
SELFISH POSTURE
Non sense but your unethical, unprofessional and shallow uselss documentary made/makes sense. i have not seen a journalist being fiercely criticized for his/her works than your ***barred word*** and politically motivated documentary was subjected to. Umaru Sanda, Paul Adom Otchere among others criticized your work. Instead of you accepting your mistakes and apologized, you concocted a death threat hoax in order to win the sympathy of the public, but it did not work. Dont even think in your wildest arrogance dream that We dont think. Why would you run to South Africa, if you indeed being threatened with death or you so stup-i-d not to realised that, SA has the highest crime rate in the world and would have been easily for your so called"assassins" to have carried their bastard act easier. Manasseh, if you dont repent from your arrogance and haughtiness, it will mark the beginning of your down fall. You and the Joy FM knows this single documentary has caused you credibility issue and you have lost number/percentage of your listeners. But i am not least perturbed and surprised because this is a TYPICAL ATTITUDE OF PEOPLE WHO LEAST THOUGH THEY COULD MAKE IT IN LIFE AND WHEN THEY DO ACHIEVE SOMETHING LITTLE, THEY BECOME ARROGANT AND STICK NECKED. Your are on your way down.
Mr. Azure, the voices of the people is....be well advised.
I am very disappointed in Manasseh Azure for comparing treatment of journalists in the present administration and previous ones. Let me say to Manasseh that the difference between the previous government he mentioned and Akuffo Addo government is that this government will not allow any journalist like Manasseh to lie to the people of Ghana. Yes, it was true that the contractor from Burkinna gave a gift of Ford to the former president. That was a fact that former president Mahama could not deny. But his documentary about the militia is deceptive, full of lies and above all very poor investigation. What do you think? For the government to sit down and clap for you for deceiving Ghanaians? You did something wrong and even some of your own colleague journalist like Paul Adom Okyere came out to tell you the truth but because of your arrogance, you think you are untouchable. You and the like of Anas should not think you guys are untouchable in Ghana. President Akuffo Addo is not corrupt and he is doing his best for the people of Ghana and that is his focus right now. The president is not corrupt so he is not scared of journalist like corrupt president Mahama. Be humble and apologize to the government because you are not perfect. Thanks
You only see things wromg with others but fail to stop to reflect on your own fallibility and so you never see anything wrong with your own failings. This is very sad. How can you claim there is everything wrong with NMC Report but nothing wrong with your documentary? Arrogance will destroy you. Who do you think you are, Mr. Discredited journalist?
Arrogance will be the beginning of your downfall. Like any human being, you have faults and limitations. You are not God who is infallible. Just be humble and read carefully NMC's report and you will realize that you were wrong in most aspects of your documentary. You were wrong because the documentary was misleading, sensational, deceptive, and above all, it was a lie. Learn to be humble and you will become a respected member of the inky fraternity for a very very ling time.
From the first day I watched the documentary, I came to a conclusion that Joy Fm and its journalists are no more objective as they used to be. Instead of Manasseh to swallow his pride and accept the truth, look at what he is saying. If I were the company, I will sue Multimedia for defamation.
Yes boss we hear you wai. You are infallible like God. Everything is wrong with their report but absolutely nothing is wrong with yours. Bravo Angel Manasseh Azure
