Professor Kofi Agyekum, popularly known as Opanyin Agyekum has condemned the neglect of the Bekwai District Hospital which when completed will be beneficial to the district and Ashanti Region as a whole.
Bekwai District Hospital which commenced in September 2010 has been left at the mercy of rats and weeds and cobwebs.
The 190-bed capacity Bekwai Municipal Hospital, abandoned by the Akufo-Addo government, is one of three hospital projects started in the Ashanti Region by the then governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The two others are at Afari, near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya District, which is a 500-bed military hospital and 250-bed regional hospital at Sawua in the Bosomtwe District.
On completion, the 190-bed capacity facility, is expected to ease the pressure on the old Bekwai District Hospital and enhance healthcare delivery in and around the Bekwai Municipality, but these will not happen soon.
Construction work began in March 2014 and was expected to be completed by September 2017.
Reacting to this on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Opanyin Agyekum bemoaned the fact that everything in the country is politicized.
"Because of politics, projects from previous governments are abandoned . . . sometimes I wonder if it is a curse, otherwise why would we abandon a project that can be beneficial to us?" he wondered.

Opening, with due respect why didn't u ask NDC to finish Kuffour's affordable housing and others. You want to tell us that it wasn't important.
People should ignore Opanin Akyekum. You've been meeting the politicians all the time on kokroko, what do you tell them? You waste the time on air just reciting proverbs. All you know is laughing and reciting poems and proverbs. Coward Agyekum. YOu should be shameful of yourself, you and Kwame Sefa Kai. YOu have the opportunity to put these unproductive minister on their toes but all you know is talk talk talk with no sense and action. Just laughing on air over serious problems. Now that you are growing old and losing your platform that you have seen what needed to be spoken? ***barred word*** people.
CURSE?? ON WHO? YOU OR THE GOVERNMENT? YOU APPEAR ON RADIO AND SUPPORT ***barred word*** ACTS BY GOVERNMENTS!! YOU REFUSE TO CALL THEM TO ORDER. NOW YOU COME AND LAMENT OF CURSE?? SHAME ON YOU!!! PROF. ADDEI WATER WATER MOUTH TOO!!
The problem with Abandoned project is that past government finish all the money allocated for the projects before it is completed so any new Gov. will not go get a loan for a project that already exits in our books as fully paid. its a shame how we do things
The Chinese loan that was gonna be used for all those projects is now in the offshore account of the finance minister and the rest has been used for buying our own treasury bills just like what Seth terkper did to us.
the MPs in the region and specific districts that these hospitals are only interested in holding unto their seats in parliament. 2020 will be a funny story....
VERY SOON YOU WILL HEAR THE SECTOR MINISTER SAYING, THE CASH FOR THE PROJECT HAS BEEN SQUANDED BY EX-PRESIDENT MAHAMA AND HIS NDC. ALWAYS BLAMING THEIR PREDECESSORS. BUT THANK GOD IT IN THE ASHANTI REGION, WE SHALL SEE WHETHER 2020 THEY STILL QUEUE AND VOTE FOR THEIR FAVOURITE OR VOTE ON ISSUES.
It is the fault of the President and not the Ministers. Who is the head of govt. Let us be bold and tell the President he is not doing well and stop hidding behind other people. He said we should be Citizens and not Spectators perhaps he is unaware of the bad nature of our roads, uncompleted projects and the likes so let us draw his attention to them as Citizens
Prof, can you drive to the office of the ministries of Finance and Health to find out why such important projects which would benefit the people of the Ashanti region and Ghana as a whole have been abandoned instead of complaining at the radio station.
