Some four National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Volta Region including former Deputy Finance Minister and Ketu South MP, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey have failed to pick nomination forms to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries.
The others are Richard Quashigah, MP for Keta, Clement Kofi Humado, MP for Anlo, and Dr Bernice Adiku Heloo, MP for Hohoe.
James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC who confirmed this said a total of 15 women out of 74 persons picked nomination forms at the close of nomination on Friday, July 12, to contest various parliamentary seats in the region.
He said Charles Agbeve, MP for Agortime-Ziope was going unopposed because he was the only aspirant who picked nomination form to contest at the close of nomination.
He added that the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) in consultation with the General Secretary had directed that, the selection process for the parliamentary primaries in the Hohoe Constituency be allowed to continue with immediate effect. The Regional Secretary said the date has been extended to Tuesday, July 16, 2019, for eligible party members who wished to contest the parliamentary primaries in the Hohoe constituency to pick nomination forms.
Mr Gunu said the original time table for the conduct of the parliamentary primaries remained unchanged and stated the determination of the leadership of the Party in the region to create a level playing field for all aspirants for free, fair, credible and transparent primaries.
Fifi Kwetey won the Ketu South seat in 2012 and retained the seat in 2016 to serve a second 4-year term. It is unclear why he failed to pick forms for the upcoming contest. The NDC’s Parliamentary Primaries have been scheduled to take place on 24th August 2019.
The party opened nominations from July 10 to July 12 for the primaries.
The filing of the nomination forms has been scheduled for July 18 and July 19.
The price of the forms was GH¢2000 with the filing fees fixed at GH¢35,000 for all contestants except women and Persons with Disability (PWDs), who are to pay GH¢17,500.

They plan to join avaklazu and koku anyidoho to declare ayigbe independence.
The source of funding has been cut, and some people are suffocating. Who thought these guys will chicken out of the race, when they claim their party is as solid as rock? I bet, this is signal that the NDC is getting sublimed. Fiifi and Richard are smart enough to use their last ex-gratia to sort out themselves in the mean time. WHEN IT IS COMING, IT IS DOING.
Face to face with corruption right? we have not forgotten when Dzifa Attivor said the constituents should support NDC to win otherwise in the event that the NPP wins, she and Kwetey will be thrown into jail. What was the premise for that statement? Obviously Kwetey and she Ativor had been practising corruption all along when NDC was in power so they were afraid of their own shadows. Kwetey is corrupt and has run out of money to campaign, hence his decision not to contest. NDC chopping nyafunyau is no more and so there is no money to contest for the elections. Period.
Fifi Kwetey is a true man of God who does not like corruption that is why he refused to pick the form to avoid seeing corruption face to face
