The Member of Parliament for Subin constituency in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye Antwi has pleaded with Ghanaians to be considerate in their criticisms against Members of Parliament (MP).
According to him they, ‘are human beings’ and they often get disturbed by the negative comments.
The Parliamentary Service Board says its decision to take the development of a new chamber block out of its present agenda was occasioned by its review of representations by well-meaning Ghanaians.
The decision to put on hold the planned new and larger chamber project, according to a statement issued by the Public Affairs unit of Parliament, was taken at a meeting held on Monday, July 8, to consider the burning issue.
“The Board, has, upon reviewing representations made to it by well-meaning Ghanaians, accordingly taken the development of the new Chamber block out of its present agenda."
“The development of the Parliamentary enclave and a new Chamber block and offices shall however, remain an essential and integral part of the future plans of the Legislature, in a bid to provide a strong, accountable, responsive and transparent parliament to serve the purpose of Parliament”, the statement signed by Kate Addo, Ag. Director Public Affairs, said.
The issue became topical since it emerged last week that the house was contemplating a new and bigger chamber to accommodate all persons who must appear before parliament. The public was divided over the propriety or otherwise of the project until the Parliamentary Service Board dropped it.

Before i do justice to my Community 10 kenkey (Branch), permit me do share this : 1. They said they needed to be close to Parliament. We listened, and built them the Sakumono Flats. They sold it to themselves. 2. They said they come from far away, mud-bloody roads. We listened to them and gave them car allowance for V8s. 3. They said their work was done in their car booths. We listened to them and completed Job 600. 4. Then, sometime 2011 or so, we refurbished, reconfigured the chamber into a Chinese theatre. We listened to their no-space argument and did it. 5. They told us they needed assistants to aid their research and work. We got them sharp ones - First Class with thesis to their credit. 6. We provide rent allowance. Sitting allowance as if they stand to work for us. 7. Then after all the trappings, we give them ex-gratia after their service. Tell me why they won't have the ........ to ask for a new chamber. Tell me why they soon won't request for offices for their wives - Paliamentawives. Tell me why they wont ask for a mosque and faith room in the chamber to pray as if God resides in buildings. And tell me why they won't ask for personal security when the people rely on State security. Finally, tell me why they won't soon request for a sleeping room because they work into the night, or have to entertain a guest. The hassle from Dome to Daruampong, Bawku to Bekwai, Suame to Sawla, Tamale to Tarkwa, Asawasi to Adidome is real!
