The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked the leadership of Parliament to cancel its new 450-seater parliamentary chamber project.
According to him the NPP are surprised a decision that has been taken in parliament by the leadership has received an opposition by the same members of the house.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, General Secretary of the party, John Boadu explained that though a cabinet approval has not been given to the project, they should stop the project immediately since majority of Ghanaians are not in support of it.
"You see members of the National Democratic Congress are just a bunch of hypocrites who do not want the country to develop."
"How can you agree in principle about a project and later come out to disagree on the same project?" he asked.
"I believe strongly that if this project is stopped, it will bring some respite to Ghanaians," he added.

STATEMENT BY NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ON PROPOSED $ 200 MILLION PARLIAMNENTARY CHAMBER
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has learnt of plans by the Akufo-Addo government and the Parliamentary Service Board to construct a $ 200 million,450-seater Parliamentary Chamber with auxiliary facilities.
The NDC wishes to state unequivocally, that it is opposed to this profligate spending at a time of great distress for the Ghanaian people. Despite incremental gains in the development of the country, many of our people live in harrowing conditions and are deprived of the basic necessities of life.
In the 21st Century, over 20% of Ghanaians live without potable water and are compelled to share very dirty and infested water with animals. About 16% of our people are without access to electricity and sleep in darkness.
There remain many roads that require urgent attention because of their deplorable state. School children still study under trees or are compelled to study in dilapidated structures.
Close to three million Ghanaians live below the poverty line and cannot afford three square meals a day.
It would be unconscionable in the face of these challenges for President Akufo-Addo to spend $ 200 million on a Parliamentary Chamber at a time when one already exists and is serving the needs of Parliament. Parliament only recently had the Job 600 project undertaken to provide decent offices for MPs. We are unable therefore to appreciate the basis upon which a new chamber should be built.
We demand an immediate cessation of plans to undertake this project. National resources must be channeled into projects and expenditure that have a direct bearing on the lives of the people not grandiose and prestige projects of doubtful relevance.
We commend all Ghanaians who have risen up and condemned the recklessness of the Akufo-Addo government in this matter and expressed, with a collective voice, their opposition to this needless and wasteful expenditure.
President Akufo-Addo must learn from the example of the NDC that invested heavily in education, health, housing, communications, water, roads transportation and other sectors which brought relief to the people of Ghana. He must not subject the public purse which he promised to protect.
Signed
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah
General Secretary, NDC

Move the capital from Accra to Ashanti region instead
It seems Ghanaians know the price of everything but hardly know to appreciate the vaule of anything. You see, this Architect Ghanaian Diaspora, born by Ghanaian parents is a world renown Architect who did the fantastic design. Indeed, his numerous works had become 'talk of the town' , so to speak, thus tourist attractions in no mean countries like the US, GB and Russia only to mention the few. I believe this Son of Ghana had wished so much to creat a terrific architectural work for his Mother- and Fatherland, Ghana. And you all agree with me his works are remarkable, contemporary, monumental and hostorical assets which shall benefit Ghana today and tomorrow. Today, people affectionately speak of Paris, London, Tokyo and New York and these Cities with their diversities and uniqueness did not fall from heaven and were not built without a cost. Please, don't let us demoralize or speak a everything down to the NDC/NPP parochial partisan and shortt-sightted interest. And all those Organisations, civil Societies and journalists who seek to get mere attention of the Government are better advised to be responsible Ghanaians. Not long a ago the Jubilee House of Ghana, the seat of Government today, in its establishment, suffered the same predicament yet it is there to stay, likewise SHS and many more to come.
WE NO GO SIT DOWN MAKE YOU CHEAT US EVERY DAY. GO TO KORLE BU HOSPITAL AND SEE THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH PATIENTS LIE. THEY LIE ON BARE FLOORS. MOST BUILDINGS HAVE SERIOUS CRACKS. SO WHAT IS HAPPENING IN GHANA? DOES IT MEAN WHEN YOU RECEIVE AN OVERWHELMING VOTE FROM THE ELECTORATES THEN YOU MUST JUST GO CRA*ZY AND DO WHAT YOU LIKE? THIS GOVERNMENT MUST WAKE-UP FROM ITS LONG SLUMBER. PAUL KAGAME IS CHASING THE UNITED STATES AND BRITAIN. GHANA IS STILL HUNTING GRASS-CUTTERS IN MY VILLAGE. AS3M BEN KROAA NIE, GHANA?
When someone is using ghana resources for free SHS,NURSES,TEACHERS ALLOWANCE,EXPANDING EXISTING SECONDARY SCHOOL,ROADS,NHIS AND OTHERS; NDC WAS USING GHANA'S MONEY ON GYEEDA, BUS BRANDING,ISOFOTON,NKONDEM,OPUNI,MASLOG,SSNIT,SAGLEMI,WOYOME AND OTHER.
Does it actually make sense for 450 seats chamber. Even America with 50 states, how many congress members do they have? This is ***barred word*** decision. We don't even need 275 members. It is a ***barred word*** project.they have to create jobs for everybody to do something to earn their own living and stop the project that put money into politicians pocket. im really sad about the actions of the leadership who only do things that do not benefit majority of its citizens
John, I came down to Ghana in December 2016 purposely to vote for your NPP because I believed your party has a visionary leader. Economists will tell us that resources are scarce and have alternative competing uses. That’s why a poor country like Ghana needs to prioritize her needs. It’s very difficult to convince Ghanaians that a new 450-seater Parliamentary Chamber is a priority project. Power corrupts and can make one become blind to pressing societal needs. Please don’t waste our scarce resources!
John Boadu, you seriously have a warped mind. You think you are smart but truth is you are a swindler and deceitful. You get ONLY deceive your die hard supporters who will vote for anything wrapped in NPP colours.
KWAME, your conclusion or judgement on this issue lacks credibility and maturity of purpose. It is either perhaps you do not read to understand or you only want attention. This message of yours actually makes no sense.
Only Ghanaian parliamentarians can tell Ghanaians the importance of Gh Parliament because honestly, average Ghanaian doesn't know their importance. It's just an institution power hungry politicians and a source of income for most of them. ***barred word*** institution in the country! After all their benefits, they're now building a new chamber for them whiles communities in their constituencies don't class room buildings and good drinking water. The country was able to survive without parliament for almost 2 decades. I have no respect for them because they're pests feeding on poor tax Gh payer.
When Potent Leaders are building Brand New Legon Medical Hospital, Ridge Hospital, Brand New Secondary Schools E blocks, Brand new Power Plants, Brand New Circle Dubai for to the benefits all Ghanaians, Gratifying to note that The INCOMPETENT and IMPOTENT LEADERS are building Cathedral, and Parliament House and EmPloying Over 140 impotent Ministers as parasitic being on my tax Money. Clandestinely and dupiously attempted to buy bloated Oslo Chancery/embassy. For the records the said loan for the 450 parliament house is coming from India, nokofio, Papa Ajasco as a speaker is working something small for the son as ambassador in India. #vote against Impotent leadership
