Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markins says the decision taken by the Parliamentary Service Board to build a new parliamentary chamber included the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu and 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
According to him, he is not in any position to comment on the proposed new parliamentary chamber as the leadership responsible for the proposition has not brought the issue to the floor of parliament for broad discussions.
Nonetheless, Board Chairman of Ghana Water Company Limited has said on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show that he is not privy as a backbencher in Parliament to the content of the proposal to pass his comment.
“I am not part of the leaders of the Parliamentary Service Board who have taken a decision on the new chamber, and those of us who are not in the leadership position cannot comment on it. The issue will be brought to the floor of Parliament after the leaders have deliberated extensively on it so that we can also share our views," he said.
“Minority leader Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South represents the NDC in Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin, former Majority leader and now 2nd Deputy Speaker; these are the key stakeholders who are the mouthpiece of the NDC Minority on the Board, together with the Majority leaders in Parliament sat to take that decision,” he disclosed.
He insisted he has not reached that status to comment on it and thus he also will not begrudge those NDC MPs like Alhassan Suhuyini and Ras Mubarak who think they are grown enough and can rub shoulders with the leaders of the Parliamentary Service Board to pass their comments.
“They have the right to their own opinions, but as for me, I will reserve the issue to the leadership and when the issue comes before Parliament, then we can also voice out our opinion but for now, the leadership of Parliamentary Service Board has spoken; I am too young to comment on it,” he reiterated.
He therefore begged to reserve his thought of the proposed new parliamentary chamber until the Parliamentary Service Board furnishes the House with extensive information on the proposal.

This is ***barred word*** and infantile talk by someone ghanaians call honarable. criticism is against mp's chamber and not npp's or ndc's mp chamber. is he really a qualified layer. its time ghanaians elect people of substance and not party affiliation.we do not need empty and noisy heads. we need critical thinkers who have vision
you are becoming u.seless of late like your ken agyapong. so if bagbin and haruna says NPP or the government should not pay teacher, are you guys going to obey that. is a matter of trying to start, get ya cut of 10% for election 2020. stop wasting our ears, we dont have time for such no.nsense anymore. the tricks are many. i wonder the sort of MP's we have now in ghana. your government like previuos governments is paying use.less money to black stars while kids are schooling TRAFFIC LIGHT (green / yellow track). that $8m etc could have been used to implement the free shs in full. how many of the players are in ghana december to vote and how many people do that influence to vote. seem there is no genuine politician in Ghana anymore. oh God save us
It seems Ghanaians know the price of everything but hardly know to appreciate the vaule of anything. You see, this Architect Ghanaian Diaspora, born by Ghanaian parents is a world renown Architect who did the fantastic design. Indeed, his numerous works had become 'talk of the town' , so to speak, thus tourist attractions in no mean countries like the US, GB and Russia only to mention the few. I believe this Son of Ghana had wished so much to creat a terrific architectural work for his Mother- and Fatherland, Ghana. And you all agree with me his works are remarkable, contemporary, monumental and hostorical assets which shall benefit Ghana today and tomorrow. Today, people affectionately speak of Paris, London, Tokyo and New York and these Cities with their diversities and uniqueness did not fall from heaven and were not built without a cost. Please, don't let us demoralize or speak everything down to the NDC/NPP parochial partisan and shortt-sightted interest. And all those Organisations, civil Societies and journalists who seek to get mere attention of the Government are better advised to be responsible Ghanaians. Not long a ago the Jubilee House of Ghana, the seat of Government today, in its establishment, suffered the same predicament yet it is there to stay, likewise SHS and many more to come
empty head. IF Haruna and Bagbin WERE part of the decision to put up THE "CHAMBER POT" AND SO WHAT. it does not make it it right. $200 million dollars is equal to 1 billion cedis at current exchange rate OF 1$ TO GH¢5. MAHAMMA BUILT E BLOCK SCHOOLS WITH 5 MILLON GHANA CEDIS. THEREFORE A VISIONARY AND POTENT LEADER CAN BUILD 200 E BLOCKS SCHOOLS. When Potent Leaders are building Brand New Legon Medical Hospital, Ridge Hospital, Brand New Secondary Schools E blocks, Brand new Power Plants, Brand New Circle Dubai for to the benefits all Ghanaians, Gratifying to note that The INCOMPETENT and IMPOTENT LEADERS are building Cathedral, and Parliament House and EmPloying Over 140 impotent Ministers as parasitic being on my tax Money. Clandestinely and dupiously attempted to buy bloated Oslo Chancery/embassy. For the records the said loan for the 450 parliament house is coming from India, nokofio, Papa Ajasco as a speaker is working something small for the son as ambassador in India. #vote against VISION LESS AND IMPOTENT leadership.
I think the government has not to be blamed about the issue of the chamber because it is not the ruling cabinet decision it is a decision from the parliamentarians and it comprises with NPP and NDC. Ghanaians should stop using political lines on debating. I think it will be the best interest of the government spokesperson to come out clear and explain the position of the President. And Ghanaians should understand what the position in Parliamentarians are betrayers. Hon. Kyei Mensah should take a big lesson from this issue. I am appealing to the Majority should stop defending the issue and just drop the chamber issue
Why don't you mention all the leaders but that of NDC
Nice talk. you are wise person.
