A member of the Communication team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbenyo says his party will not be cowed into silence by the ruling government.
“It seems to be deliberate, but the more you do this the more you energize the party; we remain resolute. If the agenda is to intimidate us, they are joking,” he stated during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Tuesday.
Fred Agbenyo was speaking to the issues surrounding the leaked tape containing the alleged voice of his National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.
Mr Ampofo appeared in court on Tuesday after three charges were leveled against him.
The Attorney General's Department have revealed that four fresh charges have been preferred against the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo and Deputy National Communications Officer, Kwaku Boahen.
The two are facing four charges, three for the National Chairman and one for Kweku Boahen.
Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the case to May 6, 2019.
Fred Agbenyo, however, does not understand why his Chairman is being persecuted when he has done nothing wrong.
“I am surprised because there have been several tapes where those involved claim it had been doctored; but never has it been sent to court. I don’t know what is motivating this action. We are not saying there should be no justice or people should go free after committing a crime, but if their intention is to create fear and panic . . . NDC is a very law-abiding party and we want to give the assurance that we cannot be intimidated by any of these actions . . .” he indicated.
Background
A leaked audio purported to be the voice of Mr Ofosu-Ampofo in a meeting with NDC communicators had him saying: “We’re going to take her [Chairperson of the Electoral Commission] to the cleaners.”
“As for the EC Chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC Chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” Mr Ofosu-Ampofo is alleged to have said.
“For the first time, I’ll endorse insulting the National Peace Council Chair,” another part of the audio said.
However, the National Chairman has categorically denied the content of the tape. According to him, it has been doctored.

their tactics is to make the atmosphere poisonous with threat, that is the hallmark of ndc so if any one of you goes against the law because it is ndc we should let it go. you haven't seen nothing yet martin amidu will start his prosecutions and that will be the end of ndc because the line up of former appointees of mahama to be prosecuted will drown ndc, no one will intimidate ndc but their own wickedness and stealing behavior will intimidate them because most of them will go to jail
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY NDC IS FULL OF FU0001S. THEIR MINDS ARE TO L1M1TED, NO WONDER J.J RAWLINGS DESCRIBED THEM AS BABIES WITH SHARP TEETH.
JUST 2 YEARS IN OPPOSITION AND YOU ARE BURNING.
WHO ARE YOU TO BLOW YOUR HORN ANYHOW. WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR ***barred word*** MOUTH AND TALK ANYHOW AS IF YOU OWN THE WORLD, YOU MUST BE SHOWN THE WAY OF THE LAW. GHANA IS NOT A LAWLESS COUNTRY. WE HAVE LAWS IN GHANA AND THEY MUST BE MADE TO WORK.
***barred word*** Agbenyo. You turn every issue into NDC-NPP politics. In 2012, was Kennedy Agyapong not equally arrested by the NDC government and charged to court for the similar statements he made? Chikdish virtuperations!!!
Masa masa don't bring yourself. If other cases were not sent to court it does not mean we should ignore this?
