Former Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has taken a swipe at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) describing them as the “worst managers of the economy since the advent of the Fourth Republic”.
According to him, if the NPP had good economic Managers, the cedi which continues to depreciate would have shot up by now.
The cedi has depreciated against the US dollar from GHc 4.8 to over GHc 5.7 since the beginning of the year sparking concern in the business community, both locally and internationally.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta announcing government’s short term intervention to save the cedi said “we are going after; $300 million, $600 million and another $750 million and 3 billion and [I think] we should be okay. And all of this should happen within the next two or so weeks.”
Speaking to this during a panel discussion on Adom TV’s 'Badwam' program, Tuesday, Felix Ofosu Kwakye said government is ‘deceiving’ Ghanaians and that the short term measures will not solve the actual cause of the depreciation.
According to him, “it is not true the cedi is gaining weight . . . they are not being truthful to Ghanaians . . . the economy is in tatters; nothing is working . . . they are just giving us false hope . . . if they claim some money is coming to shoot up the cedi, they are deceiving you . . . the reality on the ground is different….”
He further asked the NPP who praised themselves as economic gurus to “admit and accept that they have failed; they claimed they had economic Managers . . . they have brought untold hardship upon Ghanaians.. They should be truthful to Ghanaians so that we will know what to do; because it is going to get tougher".
However, the NPP National Youth Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B disagreed.
He said even though he is not happy with the depreciation of the cedi, when it comes to economic Managers, “NPP are better managers of the economy” than the NDC.
Meanwhile, Nana B is confident with the measures government is putting in place, the cedi will appreciate soon.

I’m very happy with majority of the comments here. Need I add more? This boy needs some mouthwash.
I sometimes wonder if we Ghanaians are sincere with ourselves. Yes, Bawumia did make that statement. But ask yourselves if that is the only reason for our cedi fall in value. There are other factors too to consider, which are more telling now. As for the NDC, least talk about them, the better. I wonder what the cedi would have been if they were in-charge. It's on record, the worst performance of the cedi has always being in their time. What sort of industrialization have we put in place for the past 10 years to reduce our dependence on foreign goods. We even import toothpick. What do you expect. And what angers me most is the rubbish we bring in under the name second hand goods. Some if not most, are BORLA items. We then create another problem of handling waste in the country. With all these, we expect the dollar to be cheap to bring in more ***barred word*** items? When we start using/eating made in Ghana goods, especially our rice. Stop importing rubbish. Our cedi will appreciate. We are all into buying and selling. That must stop. Let's venture into manufacturing and learn to appreciate items manufactured locally. AMEN
H3333 ofosu kwakye, find your actual father and return madam Charlotte's bribe to her in full first koraa before you make noise.
WHEN YOU TOOK GHANA TO IMF. B OO OOOAAAAA. S H U T UP BOY.
Because you are indisciplined and corrupt, it is not surprising unpardonable words like that is coming from you. When you were in government all your critics were your enemies and now you want to behave like an aristocrat. SHAME ON YOU INDISCIPLINED KWAKYE.
If you are better managers, just fix it and stop that ***barred word***. You think lies will keep you in power. Wait for 2020. We go show nana.
small boy you are now using hair dye . ***barred word***
Economy in tatters for NDC people who were CREATING, LOO&^TING & SHARING! For us only FREE SHS have saved us a lot!
The economy is in tactics. Bawumia himself once said that " If the economic fundamentals is not right the exchange rate will expose you". Looking at the rate the cedi is falling, what more can anyone say? Dont just defend the government because you NPP supporter. Show that you also have a brain in your head. If the NDC government was as corrupt as the government has been saying, how come not a single member of that government has been prosecuted? Is it because the current government hasn't govern any moral stand to prosecute them, or because the accusation of corruption was a mere propaganda?
