Ex-President John Mahama’s “boot for boot” comment, claiming NDC was birthed out of violence has angered a former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie to rebut saying the former cannot claim bragging rights over being experts in violence in the country’s political history.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission was emphatic that the NPP are overlords and real thoroughbreds when it comes to violence.
Mr Mahama, reacting to the violence which marred the by-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon a few weeks ago, sounded a word of caution to the ruling party advising them to desist from attacking members of the opposition National Democratic (NDC), else they’d be forced to show their true colours.
According to him, they will match the NPP "boot for boot" in the 2020 general elections, should the NPP continue to intimidate NDC members with hoodlums and vigilante groups.
“I want to sound a caution that NDC has a revolutionary root and when it comes to unleashing violence no one can beat us to that. It is just that we midwife this country’s democracy and that is why we must be the first to respect it. That is why we are acting as a party that is docile and respecting the rule of law. But if we believe that the government cannot protect our people and we believe that the government is using its vigilante groups and illegal forces to intimidate and harass and injure our people, then we may have to advise ourselves,” he added.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning show, Sir John as affectionately called, reminded former President Mahama not to lose sight of the fact that the revolution he is referring to started in the 1990’s and it cannot be compare to the era of “Wawadiwawa”.
“He does not know the history of Ghana. If he wants to know, he should go and look for Wawadiwawa era. Our forefathers were expert warriors and not cowards who run away from the battlefield. He is only referring to Rawlings’ 1990 revolution, isn’t it? As for the NPP in terms of violence, before Abraham was, we were”, he responded.
“Does he know when violence started in Ghana? Even Kwame Nkrumah who arrested, beat and detained us without trials, he couldn’t stand us. Does John Mahama know how the Kulungugu bomb came about in this country? He should stop bragging about violence,” he warned.

The highest irresponsible statement coming from a leader. Iam a sympathizer of NPP but this is the highest ***barred word*** statement coming from Sir John. Peacefm and the other media houses should be careful of the way they are giving prominence to statements that can bring about mayhem to this nation. Left to me alone, embargo should be placed on all statements that will bring war and problems to the nation.
