President Akufo-Addo, if he was in the classroom, would have scored low marks according to some journalists following his media encounter on Wednesday, 19th December, 2018.
According to a section of the media who were invited to the press conference, the President spent 40 minutes hailing himself and his administration leading to a reduction in the time for asking questions.
They claim it is the 'worst' media encounter ever held.
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has described the President’s comparison of the controversial medical drone deal to the botched guinea fowl project under the previous administration as petty.
" . . one low point of the President’s performance was [the] comparison of his government’s medical drone deal to that of the SADA Guinea fowl issue under the erstwhile Mahama government which was petty and unnecessary,” MFWA stated in the section assessing the President’s performance.
However, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says in as much as he welcomes the various criticisms, there is no media encounter ever held that every journalist have been able to ask questions.
According to him "it was not intentional . . . we will not get 100 percent, but we did our best and going forward, we will build on it and make it better".
40 minutes for Prez Akufo-Addo
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also defended President Akufo-Addo's 40-minute speech.
He said it was important for the President to make known his achievements and various works done since he assumed office “and that is what he did . . . we did as much as we could within the time constraint . . . I understand a lot of journalists wanted to ask questions; we will take reactions from the media as feedback and I assure them we will improve on it.”
In general, he described the media encounter as fairly balanced which need to be built on.

Kwame Nkrumah is not here to make noise with his achievements and yet all of us appreciate what he did for this country. Nkrumah did not inflate even one project, He was selfless and had the brain to develop this country and that is something Nana don't have. Nana, bawumia and the entire NPP government lacks the enterprising spirit and know how of the great Nkrumah. I must admit, I think God gave Nkrumah that gift. If you don't have it you don't have it. Nana You can even talk about your achievements in forty days and forty nights, we just don't know what you are talking about.
WHAT IS MFWA? TWEAAA!!! AND AZURE MANNESSEH IS A MEMBER? AKAI!!!
NDC JEALOUSY GO SHAME! There's no amount of attacks that will derail this INCORRUPTIBLE SAVIOR NEHEMIAH ADDO-DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO to take Ghana to the 21st promised land. ndc can move heaven down to earth decent Ghanaians are saying like the Jews said NEVER AGAIN NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU
Some of us thought Mustafa Hamid was terrible, but we have regretted. It looks as if his major problem was his lies, but now oppong nkrumah is seriously terribly incompetent. As for his deputy pious he is more than an incompetent ediot.
Our president is arrogantly arrogant. He talks to us like his children.
I don't blame the president too much. The man is naturally not intelligent. He can speak good English and quote law authorities copiously but when it comes to using his own head to speak he is always bankrupt. He is just someone who plagiarizes and is good and chew and pour, so when it comes with facing the practicalities of issues he is always found wanton and therefore speaks by heart.
Low marks according to who? The Ghanaian media landscape is strewn with half -baked almost illiterate journalists and the sad part of it is that they feel so superior when dealing with the rest of us. Remember the encounter or some journalists with the manager of the female national team? A journalist asked a question using such appalling language that is not expected of even a primary 6 pupil and the team manager spent half the time schooling him on English grammar. Such is the low and sometimes unprofessional levels of journalism that we have to contend with in this country. Also remember that half of these people masquerading as journalists are in the pocket of some politicians. As far asI am concerned they can go jump into the lake.If the man does not tout his achievements in 23 months who would? The media is always fixated on the negatives and not the good news stories.
JUST TWO YEARS IN POWER AND THE "REIGNING" NOT RULING NPP GOVERNMENT IS SO ARROGANT TO GHANAIANS PERCEOTION OF THEIR ADMINISTRATION. I WONDER WHY THE NPP IS SEEING THE "KRAMAN" AS A TIN GOOD THAT CAN NOT BE REBUKED FOR BAD GOVERNANCE OR BAD POLICIES. GHANAIANS MUST JUST ACCEPT EVERY GA*BAGE THAT EMMANATES FROM AKUFO ADDO. WE ARE FAR ABOVE TYRANICAL OR AUTOCRATIC RULE IN GHANA. MIND YOU THAT EVEN THE COLONIAL MASTERS, THE BRITISH COULD NOT HAVE THEIR OWN WAY IN GHANA. IF AKUFO ADDO IS A TIN GOD IN THE NPP HE CAN NEVER BE A TIN GOD FOR GHANAIANS THAT EVERYONE WOULD HAVE TO BE ATTACKED VERBALLY FOR CRITICISING BAD POLICIES OF THE GOVERNMENT.
First of all, the president should not bother meeting the press. There is no need for that since there are many avenues to get any information they want. There is always a repetition of what the president will say in his state of the nations address, in finance minister budget, throughout so many meet the press series by the various ministries etc. The standard of journalism in Ghana is getting worse and this is due to pampering, hearsay etc. Look at numerous media outlets in Ghana now yet the outcome is garbage. Zimbabwe have one national Tv station (with exception of DSTV and kwese who are operating via satellite link) and five radio station yet the when you read the daily papers you truly experience professionalism and good write-ups. No wonder we can barely find someone in the caliber of Tommy Annan Forson and all the old Greats. Journalism in Ghana is purely use to destroy people and serve some interest of selfish individuals for their personal gains. Until they learn to understand their service to the people and learn to grow, they will always be noisy .
Whether low mark or not this current administration is doing better than the previous government. If somebody says low mark, question yourself what is the score for a media encounter and what was the criteria use for the marking?
