National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates, who attended the 9thNational Delegates' Congress of the party, struggled to decipher the speech of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Mr. Rawlings started the brief address at the Fantasy Dome of the Trade Fair Centre in Accra by first thanking God for safeguarding party members.
The former president acknowledged the enthusiasm of the party members at the auditorium, adding that “it's very infectious and I hope you will be able to maintain the energy level right through into the night.”
Mr. Rawlings also expressed excitement about the speeches delivered by previous speakers, stating that “the speakers ahead of me have shared some interesting thoughts with us. So I will keep mine as short as possible because you have a long day ahead and it's going to be a very long and busy day.”
“I would wish for the spirit of the old days… is it possible to bring it back? I hope so, but that can only happen if we cultivate the habit of listening to ourselves.”
Some of the delegates thought he was referring to statements of the previous speakers at the venue.
Others told Daily Guide that “we don't know what he was trying to convey, but it's up to him because he is the only person who understood that statement.
“You cannot make this kind of statement and go without giving further details to people listening to you. This is not communication.”
Over 9,350 delegates voted to elect new executives to steer the affairs of the party ahead of the 2020 elections.
The NDC members contested National Chairman, Vice-Chairman, General-Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, National Organiser, Deputy National Organiser, Communication Officer and the Zongo Caucus Coordinator positions during the congress.
The main contest was between Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Samuel Koku Anyidoho for the General Secretary position.
The two personalities attracted a lot of media attention due to their verbal exchanges in recent times.

RAWLINGS WAS SIMPLY REFERRING TO MAHAMA FOR HIS USE*LESS AND PADDED ACCUSATIONS AGAINST NANA AND NPP DURING HIS ADDRESS. TALKING ABOUT FAMILY AND FRIENDS, INTERNATIONAL LIAR AND OTHER INFANTILE REFERENCES. A TYPICAL ISSUE OF THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK.
THE PROBLEM WITH JDM IN PARTICULAR AND THE NDC IS THAT, THEY ARE TOO LOQUACIOUS AND VULGAR IN THEIR THINKING AND CANNOT DISCERN PROPERLY. THEY CAN'T READ BETWEEN THE LINES, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE FOUNDER PREGNATED HIS SPEECH. YOU ARE FULL OF CORRUPTION AND DESTRUCTION OF THE ECONOMY FOR AS LONG AS 8YRS AND COME RUNNING TO US TO RETURN YOU TO POWER? AND WHEN YOU ARE ASKED TO ''LISTEN TO YOURSELF'' BEFORE YOU START ASKING FOR ANOTHER CHANCE, YOU ARE RATHER CLAPING FOR YOURSELF FOR BEING ONLY LOQUASCIOUS AND SINGING BOBOLIBOBO.
"Listen to Yourself " is an idiom meaning " Consider what you are saying and think about the logic of it and how creepy/weird it might sound before you say it out loud " so when someone asks you "do you even listen to yourself?" they are trying to ask you " Do you consider what you r saying, before you say it?
J J was right, because whatever speeches made by Mahama and cohort is about themselves not NPP. The mess that they have created which NPP is solving was what JJ was referring them to listen to in their speeches and he was right. You cannot go upstream and pollute the water and come downstream to blame some one.
Interestingly PeaceFm and Daily Guide couldn't waste time telling us the almost empty budget by their political party. It show how empty, hopeless and wasteful . What is it that, Jj said to confused the delegates ?
Daily Guide kwraa, what is your problem? Is it the appreciation of the English language or its just that you also want to tow the line of mischief? Ahh...well!!!
