The General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says his party will revoke the Free SHS Double-Tracking System policy when they are voted back into power in 2020.
Describing the policy as a ‘Shambolic’ one – he said his party will not hesitate to scrap it without even reviewing it.
“When we come to power in 2020, the first thing we will do is, we will abolish the double-tracking system. Bad planning is what has created the impression of overcrowding in schools," he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
The Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration recently adopted the double-tracking system to accommodate the increasing number of students in public schools under the Free SHS policy which was introduced in September 2017.
Currently about 362,118 first-year students in public SHSs in the country are benefiting from the policy, with 117,692 of them being day students and 244,426 as boarders.
Due to the increase in enrollment in 2017, the Education Ministry, led by Member of Parliament (MP) for Manyhia South, Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, popularly called NAPO, has projected that enrollment for 2018 may hover around 472,730 against a reported available seats of 290,737, leaving a gap of 181, 993.
The Ministry has pointed out that the double-tracking system shall offer students more instructional and contact hours with teachers as well as make better use of the available classroom space.
But the opposition NPP and its ‘surrogates,’ have openly kicked against the move.
Ex-President John Mahama has also condemned the move, saying that “Introducing shift system for SHS doesn’t help to continue to implement this all-important free SHS programme on an ad-hoc basis.”

Don't you worry Mr. palm wine tapper Asiedu Nkateee for you're no way coming to create loot and share so stop making this pronouncements to kill your lame horse ok? NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, We are moving forward 2020 WE GO VOTE NANA
With this pronouncement I can say with adequate certainty that NDC is finished completely.
Abolish what? Now l understand the veep that these people do not read. The double track is temporal measure to admit more people waiting for the expansion of infrastructures at various schools. So NDC go and get a good message for Ghanaians. Even One term premium you could not implement.
When will you and your M0R0N1C, irresponsible NDC used your thinking cup to reason for the betterment of the entire nation.
These NDC 1diots do not even understand what the double track system is all about hence they're talking anyhow. They'll stay in opposition and abolish whatever they want. 8 years in power, they couldn't implement this policy. 2 years after classic defeat, they're contemplating abolishing what a competent government has implemented in its first year. NDC is a complete mess!
Politics has really made npp fanatics 1d10ts. F001s who think they are wise.Even if your akuffo shits and give you, you will eat it. Dummies
Give us your option. If NDC had built the 200 day schools you can preach. People are attending school and you are threatening to take them out. Please come up with alternatives. My idea is to scrap Free Education for every one that can afford in Ghana North or South. We cannot subsidise those that can afford in any part of Ghana. If cannot be done then those in the South deserve it.
You are a f000**00l answer those questions yourself! who brought the lunch to school was it the ndc? you imitate wrongly what others have brought. My question to you is what did the ndc bring to help the people for the 8 years? name just one? posterity will remember Akufo Addo and the NPP for free SHS ,Kuffuor for school feeding program , NHIS etc and ndc for what? do you people sleep on pillows? or you still use your hands to support your head so the brains go dead when it was supposed to relax and rejuvenate ,that's why ndc have no vision,no clue and lack understanding in everything. If I were you people I wouldn't even speak about what the government has brought but will talk about what I will do and what do you also have tell us? or sh*t the f--ck up ! do you people think Ghana belongs to the ndc? make the noise you are noted for and the government is working, 2020 we will see what you will run on and we compare your stewardship with the NPP before we vote! your criticism of every hood thing for the people will not help you,you just want to keep your head above water because ndc us sinking. The strength of an opposition party is the number you are able to attract to your number, but with this your selfish and greediness nobody want to be part of you.You think Ghanaians have forgotten about how you run the country like a casino with your mafia Godfather and his cigar on his mouth and drunk and his bull dogs attacking everyone in the country including men of God ?you people are kidding.
Mahama did not believe in the free SHS. In fact, he never dreamt it was possible. Now,he wants to review it. Please, show us how otherwise we will still think you would collapse the only pro poor educational award winning program implemented by great minds.
I cant be convinced if you guys clearly understand your stand on the free SHS. Have you had the chance to ask teachers who are the main implementers if the move is a good one? Answer this question for me. The basic level is for free since 10 years, and the pupils are served free lunch everyday. Be honest, do you have your kids on those schools? Why? Let me tell you guy. Any free thing is not GOOD. Its like gravels on the ground. Everyone knows that travelling in the VIP bus is amazing, but not everyone qualifies to sit in it. Be honest one more time, will you be happy to see persons dressed shabbily in a VIP bus? No. that vehicle is meant for the rich. Can you answer me why some people would want to send their wards to certain class of schools in our societies? An do you think those individuals will be happy to see their kids this shift system? Education will sink in the next 5 years to come. God have mercy on these students who have fallen victim to this political gimmicks.Adinkra writes
