Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alhaji Abubakari Abdul-Rahman popularly known as Alhaji Short has withdrawn from the National Chairmanship race.
In a statement copied to Peacefmonline.com, he says his decision comes after a long introspection and consideration.
"I believe the interest of the party will be best served by my withdrawal," a statement signed by his Campaign Manager read.
The immediate past Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Abubakari Abdul-Rahman picked nomination forms to contest the National Chairman position of the party.
Alhaji Short said he was coming into the contest with an immediate goal to ensure that the party retains power in the 2020 general elections and to sustain it for at least 20 years.
“We need to be in power for long so that we can have full realisation of our policies,” he said, adding that the eight years is not enough for the party to fully implement the “good and noble” policies that it has promised Ghanaians.
However, confirmed reports indicated he had resign to give his support to the immediate acting Chairman of the party, Mr. Freddie Blay.
The race is now between the acting National Chairman, Mr. Freddie Blay, Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim, Dr Richard Amoako Baah and David Kankam Boadu.
The remaining four will meet the National Elections Committee, under the Chairmanship of Most Rev. Dr. Asante Antwi on Friday, 1st June, 2018 for vetting.
The NPP will elect new national officers at its national delegates conference in Koforidua between June 15 and 17, 2018.

I'm surprised this is going on under Nana's watch. when he was a victim of such circumstances we all spoke against it that it wasn't right and that it was his turn. We've all supported him till today. What is happening now? Why are people being "forced" to resign for want of a better word for others to have an advantage? In 2008 a basic question was asked." who is Alan? where was he when the struggle began?" I beg to ask, is this question relevant today?? If yes, then the die is cast! If NPP truly rewards loyalty, then I guess we all know who doesn't fit. Mind you people in the swing regions like Brong Ahafo are keenly monitoring proceedings. Lets not beat the side of the drum when the beautiful melodious top leather lining is intact Time Aso!!
Doubt if you are a true npp'ist. Bay is a cpp'ist cross carpet. Opposite ideology and an opportunist. By convention, no one has enjoyed the chairmanship position over one term since the time of Odoi sykes and Co. Bye bye freddy
wise decision by a brilliant man,Alhaji the future is yours. The Acting chair will win and win the 2020 for the party then the party will bring you and Bawumia to execute the NEXT AGENDA.Long live Chairman BLAY and Long live Alhaji SHORT.
Time Asooo Time Aso. The clouds are waning off for us to see the boys from the Men. If NPP rewards loyalty, long-suffering, honesty and perseverance, then Stephen Ayesu NTIM is the man. Blay is on tape saying the CPP delegates will vote for him in an NPP congress?. Haba!! Gods time is the best
ALHAJI SHORT WAS ADVICE BY AKUFO ADDO TO STEP DOWN BLAY.
