Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu has expressed disappointment in former president Mahama over comments he made at the NDC’s Unity walk in Kumasi on Saturday.
"I respect that man but for today, I’m much disappointed in the words he said when he was in Kumasi’’
Mr. Mahama during his address told party enthusiasts that using soldiers to fight illegal mining won’t achieve results, adding that the measure was tried during his tenure but failed.
“The use of security personnel against our young men and women [galamseyers] is nothing new. We tried it but it didn’t work; so we introduced a new mining law to regulate the activities of small-scale miners while giving them the opportunity to earn some income,” President Mahama said.
The Minister whose outfit has been praised for the clamping down of several illegal mining concessions and the destruction of machines says that Mr Mahama failed to deliver to Ghanaians when he had the chance and hence has absolutely no chance at coming back as president.
‘’He has failed this is not the time for him to come back and I promise he will never come back.’’
He however described former President John Mahama as a conman whose aim is to deceive the people of Ghana.
‘’what has Mahama being able to do?, I have not seen anything they were destroying all kinds of equipment, … I am so much disappointed in Mahama, I’m telling the small scale miners that this gentleman is a conman, he is deceiving them if they dare go in for him just because of galamsey this country will come down.’’
Speaking at an interview at the 8th Ghana Entrepreneur and Corporate Executive Awards 2018, Mr Amewu warned the small scale miners not to support former President Mahama so as not to bring the country down.
The embattled Minister also accused former President Mahama’s government of destroying machines which were owned by Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Wontumi during his reign as president.
‘’Wontumi was having lots of equipment, Mahama and his people destroyed it’’.
He however encouraged Ghanaians to follow President Akufo-Addo who is known as the most honest man in the world and the right person to address the small scale mining in the county.
‘’They should follow the honest man in this world, the most honest person who is ruling this country Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo he has the alternative to address the small scale mining and we will do that not former President Mahama.’’ Mr Amewu added.
In an attempt to fight illegal mining across the country the current government has among other things formed the Operation Vanguard task Force which is to assist in clamping down on illegal concessions nationwide.

Look at the person who said he is disappointed by somebody. Your disappointe should go to your president who said he is coming to support galamseyers and now that he got power he turned out to kill them
Mr Minister good morning. If what you are saying is what the former president said does it call for you calling him names. He said they tried the military and it didnot work is it an insult to your personality. Its true they tried the military. Those that your party has deployed are being accused of extorting money and corruption. You are a pleasant looking person dont do politics of gutters as is being done by your president and his deputy
Master ***barred word*** you beak, your were forced to say this, the man is talking sense and you are here telling us rubbish
I think the next election should see npp out because ban on galamsey has affected youth in ashanti region and not eastern region or volta region. Unfortunately Ashanti region is supposedly the world bank of npp. Even if a dog or monkey is dressed in npp colours and represent npp as an mp the youth of ashanti will vote for it the same applies to NDC in Volta region. Ashanti region is the least beneficiary of npp programs. For example the roads and other infrastructure are poor. how many from ashanti region hold key appointment in npp. you lied to the average ashanti and project the interest of the akyem. ex president kuffour did not do that. a word to a wise is for the youth of ashanti region. do not take politics for granted think of what will benefit you and the region. all contracts are going to non ashantis and ndc guys. obuasi the second strong hold of npp is just like any remote village in ghana , poor roads, no work for the youth. continue to live in a fuuls paradize if you will vote for npp. the minister does not know the dynamics of development and growth in ashanti region. just a minister reading from the books and thus it
Mohammah had been tested and failed, how on earth does he think Ghanaians would take him back? not at later elections but the next. Wow people are not smart at all. Well the truth is Mohammah has a very unique agenda of competing the 2020 with the President not necessary winning the election but winning the 3rd time debate just like Atta Mills and Nana Ado. Remember when he runs in 2020 and lost he could come back 2024 to challenge whoever the NPP brings. His advicers are holding on to that scenario. NDC and Rewlings have a long way to go as far as Mohammah is concerned. Onaapo!!!
This man, small praise Ghanaians praised this AMEWU guy, he is already SWOLLEN HEADED and thinks that all power belongs to HIM and NPP and so he knows that someone will not WIN elections again. ALL KNOWING AMEWU, 2020 is coming. Even your Ministerial position could be change at any time and you sit and SPEW RUBBISH about a man who has dealt with these issues at a high level. The Hunble MAHAMA will KICK your A$$ out very soon.
This is all NPP knows to do. Reacting to opposition's valid concerns with Mediocre responses. The President does it all the time by CLEARING offenders of wrong doings. We are watching with keen interest. NPP never takes criticism. they are always on the offensive. They believe in the MEDIOCRE world. The gentleman called MAHAMA is giving you free counsel and all you do is rubbish it. AYOOOOO!
You hypocrites, the man is talking sense. Your president stood on campaign platform and promised to not ban galamsey if they vote for him. So how honest is he when they do their part and you throw a ban in their faces? the only way out of this menace is proper regulations. Dont be an ***barred word***
give the guys jobs and stop commenting. already the excercise is a failure. how come others are doing and some of them cant do it .it is not an effective way of doing it . you have failed because of political implementation.
This is the mind set of a man who once ruled Ghana. God have mercy!
