A former Deputy Minister of Communications in the John Mahama administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says he will never attempt to make the ‘treasonable’ comment made by his fellow party member, Koku Anyidoho.
According to him, Koku’s comments are “unfortunate” but the approach by the police to arrest him is also “laughable”.
The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho is quoted to have said there will be a civil revolt to unseat the Akufo-Addo administration just as it happened on the 13th of January 1972.
Koku Anyidoho, in an interview on Accra-based Happy FM, indicated that President Akufo-Addo will be overthrown just like his father and the late Dr. K. A. Busia due to the ratification of the controversial defence cooperation agreement between the US and the government of Ghana.
“Somebody should tell Nana Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself. On the 13th of January 1972, a certain Colonel Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led an insurrection that removed the Progress Party from power. Busia was the Prime Minister and Akufo Addo’s father was the ceremonial President. Someone should tell Akufo-Addo that history has an interesting way of repeating itself,” Anyidoho warned.
Koku Anyidoho has been charged with treason, and thus refused bail, following his invitation to the Criminal Investigations Department [CID], on Tuesday.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’, Felix Kwakye Ofosu noted that “Even though I will not make such utterances, I don’t see anything wrong with what Koku said. What Koku said wouldn’t bring any uprising. It’s unnecessary for the state to use state funds on Koku’s issue”.
“The charge of treason is not sustainable. His arrest is laughable. The police can be more professional if they want to”, he told host Akwesi Aboagye.

WHAT KOKU ANYIDOHO DID IS FAR MORE SERIOUS THAN WHAT THE THREE JOURNALIST, MONTIE 3, DID TO BE JAILED DURING PRESIDENT MAHAMA AND HIS NDC GOVERNMENT. IN FACT THAT THREE JOURNALISTS WILL BE SADDENED AND FEEL CHEATED BY GHANA JUSTICE SYSTEM IF KOKU ANYIDOHO IS NOT JAILED.
NDC IS THE MOST WORST GOVERNMENT EVER FORMED IN THIS COUNTRY. NO WONDER THEY HAVE SUCH A LIABILITY AMONG THEM TO SPEAK UN-MATURELY THOUGH HE IS. THIS HAS CLEARLY SHOWN THAT MAHAMA GOVERNMENT TRAINED AND UR-SHED INTO OFFICE PROFESSIONAL ***barred word*** AND REBELS FOR THIS COUNTRY. HE(KOKU) SHOULD BE BROUGHT BEFORE THE LAW AND PROSECUTED.
“Even though I will not make such utterances, I don’t see anything wrong with what Koku said. I rest my case
Why wouldn't you make such comments? Is it not because they are treasonable? But you still don't find anything wrong with it. Blowing hot and cold at the same time.

For those who don't know what constitutes treason, below is what the constitution says regarding treason. Inciting the public to takeover power is treason. 19 clause 17 and 18 (17) Subject to clause (18) of this article, treason shall consist only— (a) in levying war against Ghana or assisting any state, or person or inciting or conspiring with any person to levy war against Ghana; or (b) in attempting by force of arms or other violent means to overthrow the organs of government established by or under this Constitution; or (c) in taking part or being concerned in or inciting or conspiring with any person to make or take part or be concerned in, any such attempt. (18) An act which aims at procuring by constitutional means an alteration of the law or of the policies of the Government shall not be considered as an act calculated to overthrow the organs of government.
