Nana Ofori Owusu, an Aspiring National Chairman of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), has lambasted the National Identification Authority (NIA) for their failure to implement the biometric identification system in Ghana.
According to him, it is significant for the Authority and government to do the biometric identification system in order to keep records of the database of Ghanaians.
He wondered why the system has been stalled when it is the surest way to fight crime and other related issues in the country.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Nana Ofori Owusu noted that the Authority's inability to roll out the biometric identification system is "hampering our development. It is affecting to trace criminals. It is our abilities to make proper projections and to account for who is a Ghanaian, who is a non-Ghanaian . . . The National Identification Authority has grossly failed us”.
He was disgusted by government's initiative to do biometric driver's license when they haven't been able to implement the identification system.
“Where are we? You go and you do driver’s license biometric. The driver’s license biometric is not linked to the national identification. Meanwhile, the law states that they must all be integrated, so why do you rush to go and do a driver’s license identification system that has not been linked to the national identification system. Which comes first . . . The national identification system should be all of our focus", he said.
He asserted that the identification system will help the nation to fight crime saying without it "how are you going to fight the crime? How are you going to fight the crime if you don’t have the database of the criminals?”

What can we do, unless we change our political decision of voting NPP and NDC. Awake Ghanaians
Ghana oooo Ghana, we pray from morning to evening daily, that means we are with God, but nothing is possible in this Country or?
Prof. Attafuah is the most corrupt person in the history of the NIA. He's a sheep in a wolf cloth. When he assumed office at the NIA, he made all sort of promises to the employees regarding their poor work conditions and also to get the NIA staff back to work. Now he's turn around and now victimising the staffs and tagging them as NDC members. Which is a TOTAL LIE. Now instead of getting the staff to work, he's sold his integrity to Moses Baiden, CEO of IMS. Who has heavily bribed him and he has been maintain to provide bogus system to Ghana. Until Attafuah and IMS is out of NIA, GhanaCard will remain a dream. More info to come later.
with all the hype that surrounded the re--implementation of the national ID for Ghana in the 2017 even the President of the land showcasing his new national ID, , the National Identification Authority has still not issued Biometric IDS for the people of Ghana. Prof Attafuah the people of Ghana deserve answers. What is happening?
