Findings from a survey conducted by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana (UG) has revealed that 58% of Ghanaians would want former President John Dramani Mahama to contest the 2020 elections.
Out of the 5000 respondents that participated in the survey, 2,900 held the assertion that the former President was the best candidate for the NDC flagbeareship position.
Other NDC members who have expressed their interests in the candidacy race scored not more than 7%, according to the survey.
These figures were disclosed by Dr. Bossman Asare, Head of Political Science Department at the UG, at a lecture series on Wednesday.
“Overwhelmingly, 58% of the people we interviewed said Mr. Mahama will become the candidate. Generally, they said they wanted Mr. Mahama to come. When you look at it, it’s like some people are getting 2%. We know people who have made their intentions clear – Mr. Sylvester Mensah, Prof. Joshua Alabi, Ricketts Hagan and Spio-Garbrah. I think all of them are getting less than 7%,” he disclosed.
He admitted that the team was surprised with the findings which suggest an endorsement of Mr. Mahama by the populace.
The former President, though, is yet to make a definite decision on his future, although he has given hints suggesting that he may contest.
Dr. Bossman added that should the findings from the survey be actualised, Ghanaians would witness an election being contested by two candidates from the two major political parties in Ghana, who were equally presidents.

Mahama should let Ghanaians know what plans he has for us. Just jumping around that you want to be president without any plan won't convince any sensible person to vote for you. NPP promised free education at the high school level. Despite all odds, they are delivering. What real plans has he got for Ghanaians? Is he coming to pay allowances to the un-employed or is he extending free education to cover the Basic education level? He should say something and not just "I want to be President".
Appiah stadium has to become general secretary for NDC before Mahama can become the flagbearship.
Ndc lack human resources, how on earth would they field a president in power with all the natural resources and money mismanaged the economy and sent the country into a mess to satisfy his family, friends and cronies be their last bet?hahahaha! And their fo*lish communicators will take this as NPP are scared of the man 54% of Ghanaians voted massively to send him away because of his incompetency and l000ting. Bring him on and it will be miserable for the ndc, the reason why President Rawlings is angry with the man and wouldn't look at his face when shaking hands with him. President Rawlings is an intelligent man who is the longest serving head of state of this country and has the experience and know what he is doing not that he has mood swing but because he see the man John Mahama as somebody who want destroy his party. President Rawlings knows this man will never win the 2020 elections because there is nothing to show to the people to like him and hand over their country to him and moreover, the current government is doing marvelously well to the satisfaction of the people even in just a year and how can you take power from them with your ste*ling and insults, with no credibility on your side, when the people don't trust or believe you. John mahama is power drunk and he is trying to behave like Late Dr Hilla Limann who wouldn't listen to good advise and presented himself in the 1993 elections which he was humiliated miserably and since then his PNC has been a laughing stock in Ghana politics. If he is a reasonable person he should take a clue from Dr Limann who spent only 28 months in power and thought he had an unfinished job finish but Ghanaians buried his party forever and Rawlings doesn't want that to happen to his party, that's why he described those behind John mahama as later days saints and economic association members. The man JJ is damn angry for John mahama to be taking that so called unity walks when other contestants are not having that chance, and he knows John mahama is making his party more divided and unattractive by his power drunk attitude. I understand why he was cold to John mahama on the 25th anniversary because he knows what Ghanaians can do so just want the man to leave his party alone so he can reorganize it. He knows there is no way Ghanaians will bring back John mahama because of the evil his appointees did to this country. 68% of Ghanaians approve to his appointees being prosecuted and jailed and John mahama think Ghanaians are fo*ls to bring him and his gang of thi*ves to power?he is dreaming in a wonderland.
What else has JM got to prove when he comes back? Nothing! Is he coming to settle personal scores? I can't get it. He must not mess NDC chances koraaa
Oh why NPP people why are you shaking? LOL
Clearly ndc has no one. Mahama will definitely win their primaries, but will be dIsGraCed overwhelmingly at the final onslaught.
It clearly shows that 58% of NDC members are block headed. Thanks
THIS IS CHEAP AND MANIPULATIVE POLITICAL SURVEY FOR THE BENEFIT OF NPP. ANY SENSIBLE AND RIGHT THINKING PERSON WILL NOT FALL FOR THE RESULTS OF THIS SURVEY.
THEY DON'T HAVE THE MEN.
