The African Court on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) has ordered Ghana to suspend all efforts to retrieve the GH₵51.2 million judgement debt paid to businessman, Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome, until the court determines an appeal filed by the businessman.
Woyome had filed an application at the ACHPR in response to the Supreme Court’s judgement on July 29, 2014 that ordered him to pay the GH₵51.2 million on the grounds that he got the money out of unconstitutional and invalid contracts between the state and Waterville Holdings Limited in 2006 for the construction of stadia for CAN 2008.
He prayed the ACHPR to halt all processes seeking to execute the Supreme Court’s July 29, 2014 judgement until his case was determined by the African Court.
In a unanimous ruling on November 24, 2017, the 11-member panel ordered Ghana to suspend the seizure of any property belonging to the businessman, “take all appropriate measures to maintain the status quo and avoid the property being sold’’ until the case was determined.
Per the ruling, “the court finds that the situation raised in the present application is of extreme gravity and urgency on the basis that should the applicant’s property be attached and sold to recover the 51, 283, 480.59 the applicant would suffer irreparable harm if the application on the merits is decided in his favour…”
They further ordered Ghana to report to it within 15 days “from the date of receipt of this order on measures taken to implement this order’’.

Is Ghana's Supreme Court bigger than African court? Our supreme court is exhibiting ***barred word*** pride.. Should Cote d"ivoire also reject ILOS ruling?
Wayome, Ghanaians are not prepared to forgive you, so these acts of gimmickry will not take you far. Your lawyers are taking the little money to have. You could have saved the legal service fees to defray part of your debt. I should think you are using these legal antics to buy time in order to find to money to pay, otherwise, you are going in circles.
Peace fm please kindly update information immediately there is sequel to such news. The Supreme Court has overruled it on constitutional interpretation grounds and has gone ahead to rule that the State should go ahead with the execution.check sister sites and up your game for timely information to the public.
Weather court or No court, Woyome will pay the money. That so called Court can,t dictate for Ghana because we are retrieving the money from Woyome through legal means. If i were to be Woyome, I will pay this money and have my peace of mind. That court is joking we will collect our money.
it makes sense. you steal and gets immunity for it. that is what i call taking the bull by the horn and not getting killed. Africa would forever be poor. this is so true when governments are involve in such a crime and to think that the NDC still want power amazes me. i feel sad now but i know that we would collect our money one day.
NPP SAID THEY WILL COLLECT THE WOYOME MONEY IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS IN POWER, NANA COLLECT THE MONEY LET US SEE!!THE GUY DID NOT ROB THE MONEY,IT WAS PAID THROUGH THE NORMAL LEGAL CHANNELS.BUT WOYOME MUST PAY THE MONEY IF INDEED HE CHEATED GHANA!!
it would be a great disservice to us all if the 51M is not retrieved from wayome. i believe the AG will get the money back
No wonder United Kingdom is voted BREXIT. Worthl£ss external interference like this ruling encourages corruption. We will soon have our own GHEXIT from the African Court.
But truth be told Wayome is a fighter lets see whether he will emerge a hero or a villain. Many Ghanaian s are so better though.
Others were gun down for just 10 cedis and what a hell is that court saying. This is an opportunity for the highest court in this country to nail WOYOME and open up for the criminal aspect of the case again. All we want to see is WOYOME jailed including all those who were involved in the payment. NPP Gov't you can't fail Ghanaians.
