A Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology says the idea to institute a ‘Founders' Day’ celebration by the incumbent government has been hasten.
Dr. Edward Brenya cautioned President Akufo-Addo to ‘slow down’ with the process after claiming that, the president may end up celebrating just a political tradition instead of celebrating the fore bearers that actually played significant role in the struggle for independence from colonial rule.
“If we don’t take care, a time will come a government of the National Democratic Congress will also declare June 4 as founder’s day because Rawlings also believes the June 4 revolution set the pace for Ghana’s actual realisation of civil democracy and disciplined leadership,” he said in an interview with Kumasi-based Abusua FM.
A communiqué from the seat of government has indicated that, the president has proposed the celebration of September 21 as the birthday of Ghana’s former leader, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and August 4, as ‘Founders' Day’ celebration.
But the political academic says the two celebrations “could polarise the country along political traditions.”

In fact Akufo Addo's Presidency has exposed much of Ghanaian hypocrisies. The man is indeed putting things right and history where it belongs. If we really want to develop as a nation, then we must all rally behind him and stop the old attitude of hypocrisy.
I am totally surprised by the comments of this University Lecturer, did he actually read enough historical Literature on Ghana before commenting? How do you equate a coup to the works of the various founders of Ghana? someone should kindly inform him that he has totally deviated. The Founders is in order
I do not agree with the lecturer. June 4th is a military rule not republic rule. I also believe that History must be written as itis. There shouldnt be any distortion. That is why i prefer contemporary history. You will get up-to-date information
Both two days are unnecessarily for holidays . Ghanaians need to work harder for economic growth.
Akufo Addo should be brave enough to cancel 21st September and not celebrate it as Nkrumah's birthday. Why is he celebrating Nkrumah's birthday? Otherwise he should celebrate the birthdays of all the former presidents. Why bring this controversy at this time when the best he could have done is to keep the country united. Has he finished creating job for the jobless guys in our street?
Simple calculation from Prez Akufo Addo. If you celebrate 21 Sept as Former Prez Nkrumah's birthday, then we must celebrate Busia's birthday, Liman's birthday, Rawling's birthday, Kufuor's birthday, ... Akufo Addo's birthday.
Dr. no need to mention June 4 here. The issue of Founders' day, not a coup which overthrew a constitutionally elected government. In any case, Nkrumah gets to to be celebrated 2x, August 4 cos he was a member of UGCC and his birthday, September.
