The over 1 million defeat the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) suffered in the 2016 elections has been described as the mother of all defeats in Ghana’s political history by former Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Sani Mohammed.
According to the founding member of the NDC, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) did not just defeat the NDC in last year’s election but rather humiliated the latter into opposition with that wide vote margin.
“NPP didn’t just defeat us, they humiliated us and made us naked before the public and I don’t think any party can defeat another party with this kind of margin in Ghana again. It is the mother of all defeats and so if you love NDC, this is the time to throw away any squabbles existing among us; whether we like it or not, by God’s grace we know our mistakes,” he said on Asempa FM’s 'Eko Si Sen' afternoon programme.
He maintained that the defeat the opposition NDC suffered in the hands of the ruling NPP is undeniable and cannot be hidden; emphasizing that “we are responsible for the defeat we suffered in the hands of the NPP.”
He revealed that NDC had no root holding the party during the 2016 campaign; recalling that the NDC Ashanti Regional Executives never visited any place in the region till now.
He reiterated that they neglected the party work and solely relied on the achievements of former President John Mahama, expecting the achievements to work magic for NDC in the 2016 elections.
“From 1992 till today, I have not seen this kind of campaign before. We didn’t have collation centres and I am happy the report says we should go back to our root. We have to go back to the grass roots to apologise to them for neglecting them and assure them that we are with them; let’s admit our mistakes before them,” he advised.
He however cautioned that Regional Executives, especially those in the Ashanti Region should not be allowed to go to the grass roots to apologise as the people have sworn to beat them up; thus, neutral people should be sent to calm tempers at the grass root level.

NPP will never suffer a worse defeat. If NPP is able to get the economy working again, then Ghanaians will keep voting for them. Grassroot is a myth and does not exist. NDC lost badly because they stole monies meant to get the economy to work so everything was simply at a standstill and Ghanaians were suffering and that is how come NPP won massively. Moreover, NPP was able to identify their rigging strategy so NDC could not repeat the strategy they used in 2012. All NPP need to do is fulfill their promises which they are more than capable of doing and victory is theirs and Ghana's.
This N D C bigwigs paaaaa, when did you know of the existence of the grassroot supporter's, you had plenty water and yet you left the roots of your grass dry, now that your free lunch is gone ,you know grass has roots. until rain beats a vulture, it soon forgets the need for a nest, from what is happening, the N P P might even suffer a worse defeat, simply because the grassroot support base are not happy with some of the appointments especially in some regions and districts where complete strangers are now ministers/dce's. Any sensible party supporter will not hit the street again but will wait for his/her turn on a certain December 7,if NANA ADDO thinks his regional chairmen are better than him, then he should sit and watch them commit blunders because of their personal interest, yoooooo
The margin of defeat for 2020 will be more than 2 Million votes. Mark it somewhere. Don't say I did not tell you. The fact remains that Ghanaians have come to see NDC for all what it is i.e. unbridled corruption with no intention of developing Ghana or managing Ghana's economy for the benefit of Ghanaians. Moreover, NPP too has successfully worked out the rigging strategy of NDC so all in all NDC is a finished party. Ghanaians have become aware of the level of economic development that is required from the government and since ndc remains a corrupt and propaganda party then it can kiss winning any elections in Ghana goodbye.
