Former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports is accusing the government of Akufo-Addo of engaging in political persecutions against former appointees of the erstwhile John Mahama administration to cover up his “incompetence.”
Joseph Yamin explains, since assumption of office in January this year, President Akufo Addo has been struggling to assert control on his government, a situation he says has led to violent attacks by thugs of the New Patriotic Party.
Speaking to www.abusuafmonline.com, the former Deputy Ashanti Regional minister argued that the series of investigations currently ongoing against former Chief Executive of the Ghana COCOBOD, Stephen Opuni are “baseless and lacking substance.”
Yammin believes, “the actions of the government are nothing short of a lazy government providing excuses for their non-performance.”
He said, “Ghanaians have giving you the mandate to rule the country, why do you waste so much time in blaming the previous administration when you have the mandate to correct whatever ills you campaigned on for which reason Ghanaians voted for you.”
“A typical example of their political persecution is the manner in which they treated issues of Dr. Opuni’s salary as if the man fixed his own salary, meanwhile the salary was an institutional arrangement.”
“They are failing to tell you and I the achievements of Dr. Opuni as COCOBOD boss. Dr. Opuni
Stopped the practice where articulator trucks were loading cocoa beans from the farms straight to the port which was a smuggling practice used in robbing the state of revenues.”
“Dr. Opuni ensured staff of the COCOBOD were paid better salaries and a lot more unemployed Ghanaians were recruited among other achievements.”
“Now I am reliably informed of their agenda to start a smear campaign against the person of former Chief Executive of the Tema Oil Refinery, Awuah Darko, accusing him of corruption and other baseless allegations,” he revealed.
Joseph Yammin stressed, “if they care to know, Awua Darko’s tenure at TOR saw high levels of unprecedented transformations such as restoring operations of five out of the six non-operable depots in the country.”
“Awuah Darko also restored operations of the Bolga-Buipe pipeline which was idle for the past nine years prior to his appointment as CEO of BOST and ensured over nine million liters gas oil was stored and transported through there.”
