The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has likened members of Parliament to auctioneers because according to him, no bill is passed in parliament ‘without money going through the hands of parliamentarians’.
Mr Mornah made this comment while reacting to the report from the Joe Ghartey committee.
An ad-hoc committee chaired by Hon. Joe Ghartey set up by parliament to investigate the bribery allegation found the Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga guilty of contempt of parliament and recommended that he should be sanctioned in accordance with Section 35 of the Parliament Act, 1965 (Act 300).
Contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold's, Alhaji and Alhaji, the PNC chairman was not satisfied with the work done by the committee.
He does not understand why the committee found Mahama Ayariga guilty of contempt when Parliament had given them a different mandate.
Mr Mornah added that ‘it is no secret’ Members of Parliament take bribe.
According to him, Members of Parliament are confessing individually to friends that the bribery story is true but are not bold to publicly declare it.
“…It is no secret that the dealings of parliament are now in the public domain. Bills cannot be passed without something going in…it was my hope that the minority in parliament will want to protect their own because almost all of them knew that the bribery story was true. If you ask them individually, they will tell you that it happened…the way they’ve handled this issue, everybody predicted the outcome and they did not deviate from it. So kudos to parliament for what they have done which society knows that it is wrong”.
He added: “I said this was going to be a charade…there are many things that happen in parliament that beats the imagination of the ordinary person. It’s difficult for a bill to be passed in parliament without some monies going through members of parliament and that these things are done almost all the time.
It means the kind of leadership that we have in parliament is suspect. The leadership that we have in parliament in some instances can be described then as auctioneers because it appears all these things pass through leadership…and when one decides that no; this is not true, you must be sacrificed for the rest of parliament and I think this is what is happening”

it is only in Ghana where people can make wild allegations without any shred of evidence just to injure the reputation of others and walk free without any consequences. those who support such actions would soon find themselves at the receiving end of such damaging but baseless allegations and then they would be expected to just admit the their accusers are just playing testing their vocabularies in preparation for a scrabble game
The Bunso Rest Stop on the Accra-Kumasi road which includes the Linda-dor bar and restaurant lacks a motel. The ministry of Tourism must help local companies access credit so that one can be constructed. Alternatively, the Ministry could encourage big hotels like Golden Tulip and Movenpick to construct one. The Motel would also serve visitors to the Bunso Arboretum.
This punk is a failure and an unrepentant opportunist!!! He 5hinks he is somebody but he 8s nothing but a political puppet and clown being manipulated by money and life's goodies!!!
Parliament should invite Bernard to the parliament to prove this allegation or we should stop calling it the august place any more if it is proven to be true. These anti npps are diabolically going to target the parliament knowing very well that the majority always get the blame when the parliament is seen to be corrupt or not doing well.

Hope Parliament will charge this guy with contempt of Parliament for his comments. I bet he will quickly deny that he ever made that comment! He is a coward! Let him bring forth the evidence to back his claim. Peter Dogbe
If you knew this why did you want to join them? you tried against Rashid Pelpou lost miserably and now against almighty Alban Bagbin and you saw your smoothness level. i wonder why the delegates of PNC vote for you? (i am told you rigged) nonetheless your days are numbered now that NDC is out of power. You and Kwesi Pratt will see your PIGA. You are now parading the corridors of power. Just resign from the PNC and join NDC. Shame
If this inexperienced guy is the chairman of CPP , how can they win parliamentary seats let alone the presidency. CPP will continue to rot unless they put serous and matured people in their leadership.
Is it the reason why you wanted to join them. You lost miserably in the parliamentary election.
you hit the nail right on the head. bills get passed and quicker when the envelope is fat. is that not bribery. intending to influence favourable out come by payment. All the noises of bills are routine and procedural. ask the MPs the meaning of discounting and Improportionates sharing (sharing by seniority)
