The Leadership of Ghana’s Parliament has banned the use of placards by members during the budget presentation on Thursday March 2, 2017.
In a proposal on the floor of Parliament Friday, Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu argued that the development as has been in the past casts the image of the legislature in a bad light.
The Member of Parliament for Suame also reprimanded the minority for their behavior during the president’s state of the nation address on Tuesday.
Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu in supporting the proposal called on the majority to conduct themselves well in future given that, that side of the House started singing during the address by the President.
This is not the first time MPs have been warned to desist from showing placards on the floor.
In November 2013, the then Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho stated that it is un-parliamentary for members to display placards in the House, accusing each other of acts of alleged wrongdoings.
Meanwhile, several tax cuts are expected to be announced by the Finance Minister when he reads the first budget of the Akufo-Addo government next week Thursday.
Government intends to reduce or in some cases, completely remove some taxes as part of a proposed tax reform.
For instance, government is looking at reducing corporate income tax from 25 to 20 percent and abolishing the 17.5 percent tax on financial services.

Amazing how tight the shoe fits on the other person's foot! They were champions in this, and now that it's their turn to get booed, the NPP is already feeling the creeps. One good turn deserves another. likewise, one bad move deserves another!
Where were you when it was being done to the late professor Mills and ex-president Mahama? Is your Nana Addo more Human than the past presidents? You have invited the maggot to your house and don't be suprised when they begin to pay you a visit.
If we have to live in a country os tit for tat then our country will never go forward and we will stay at where we are forever, at least we have to grow up in somethings and as far as am concern if the NDC doesnt use it then the NPP will have to put in mind that they will also not use it in years to come when they go on opposition. Lets learn to grow up in everything as a nation and stop those behaviour cos it wont put food on our table. Peacefm look for ur editor and check the spelling of placards in ur headline
The minority should not accept this. If they do in the next election, their number is going to shrink to about 50. NPP want to have absolute majority so they are starting to gag the minority in order to have their way in everything they do. If this so called ban is tolerated, next time they would come up with another ban and the bans would go on and on. We are living in free society so these type of ban is not lawful. Very soon then the heat is on them, nana addo would ban public demonstrations, this is what the ban is eventually going to lead into.
So this small heckling this Oldman go through noooorrrr!OSEI Klein Mensah BOSSU say wetin? You are our reps.in that house and we are saying to you that, just as we enjoyed JM'S heckling so do we want with Nana.So please do not stop it.
Mahama and the NDC should sit in opposition and learn how to make use of power when you get the chance. Eight years in power you allowed the NPP to heckle and embarrass your leaders. Just one and half months into his administration he thinks its wrong to you to use placards. The man could not stand few heckle in his hour speech because he was getting irritated hence responding to mere heckle forgetting that he is now the president. The NDC and the John mahama were quite weak in power and that accounted for their defeat. Nana addo is definitely going to do more of these to gag the minority but I don't think they should sit down and accept some of these unnecessary changes. Very soon, they would gag all Ghanaians and that is what will send them to opposition so quick. NPP embarrassed president Mills with red card and NDC majority entertained it.
