The President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged his commitment for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the country starting 2018.
The move, he explains will not only deepen the decentralization process but will definitely afford the people the opportunity to select who can best represent their interest as chief executive.
Addressing chiefs of the Central region in Cape Coast, Nana Akufo-Addo pledged his commitment to work closely with the chiefs especially in the selection of the various chief executives for the assemblies.
He also pledged to deliver on every promise he has made to the region and the country as a whole including the famous one-district-one-factory, and one million per constituency policy.
Meanwhile, the President of the Central regional house of chiefs Oberempong Nyamfo Krampah XI, has appealed to the President-elect to help restore the lost glory of the chieftaincy by involving the chiefs in decision making.
He also urged Nana Addo to cause the MMDCEs not to sidestep the chiefs in taking decisions concerning the generality of the people in the various districts as chiefs are not only custodians of the land but key stakeholders in the governance structure especially at the district level.

This is the greatest news ever.... Regional Ministers should follow.... be elected one day. Universities and Hospitals should be independents, pay their own staffs. It is uncivil for the central government to pay every government worker in Ghana. I don't know who thoughts us this. In the USA every university, hospital is responsible for the payment of its own workers. Counties (Districts in Ghana) and States (Regions) are responsible for their own workers salaries. The central gov't, which is the Federal gov't is responsible for only federal workers.
THAT WILL BE A LAND MARK IN THE FOURTH REPUBLIC AND AN ESSENTIAL LEGACY OF AKUFFO ADDO GOVERNMENT. IT WILL ENHANCE GOVERNANCE AND SUPPORT THE ONE FACTORY AGENDA IN THE DISTRICT OR CONSTITUENCY. IT ALSO SHOW THAT PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT POLITICAL PARTIES CAN WORK TOGETHER FOR THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR LOCALITY. IT BWILL REDUCE BOOT-LICKING IN GOVERNMENT
This is great!!! This is what have wished in my own little 3 pound brain, that the best thing that must happen to any district and city is for them to choose their own DCE. Nana is the man we can trust. These are the people we need to rule. Not those who will dump any leader on us. Nana I give you my full support. With this beginning, your kingdom is going to be successful and happier than we have ever experience in Ghana. The people know their leaders more than the prez sitting in Accra. Nana has chosen the wisest decision. This is somebody that is going to work for the people and not for himself. Kuduuuuuuuuuus Nana!!!
a wise king indeed has been elected...Nana God help you deliver
Any time NPP comes to power new things are introduced that enhances and deepens the democratic values of the Ghana , this is one of such in the making by electing our MMDCEs to lessen the control on the MMDCEs from the presidency and who said this is not good Our brothers on the other side only come and continue with what NPP already started It shows clearly the NPP are pace setters and NDC followers or follow follow party
